Maxey's Store — Local services in Powhatan

I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant that cost me $60. The customer service was incredibly poor, and the atmosphere felt unwelcoming from the moment we walked in. We ordered a Ruben that was incredibly dry, a chicken sandwich that was burned, fries that were overly salted and tasted like they were cooked in the same grease as the chicken and some pastries that were all dry and stale.

To make matters worse, we waited 27 minutes before we had to ask about our order, only to find out that it had been sitting in the back the whole time. There were only two other customers in the restaurant, and they had already received their food, so there was no reason for the delay.

Visited the store today with a long time friend after helping him move into his recently bought home in Powhatan. After unloading, we ran some errands and lunch was included. He mentioned that while he was in line, he heard other customers raving about the Smash Burger. Unfortunately, he ordered something else. He said that what had was very good but just had to have a Smash Burger. So today we did. It was superb. In addition, I purchased some crab cakes to take home. Living an hour away, the staff provided a properly packaged "ice" bag. The crab cakes were some of the best I've ever had, to include Maryland crab cakes. Dined in for lunch on a Thursday afternoon (party of 2) after hearing about it a few times over the past week. We placed our orders at the counter and the cashier was very pleasant and helpful. I had the double smash burger and bacon and it was delicious. It was cooked perfectly. My friend ordered the Rachel (swapped coleslaw for sauerkraut) which she enjoyed. Our french fries didn’t appear fresh as they weren’t hot. The indoor seating is kind of limited but all food is packaged to go and they even have premade items.

The store itself is beautifully organized. We walked through and saw a lot of products local to the county and state of Virginia. I’d absolutely return for another lunch...
