Easily the most worthless, miserable excuse for a gym I have yet to experience in the 20+ years that I have been a regular gym goer! It's certainly not worth the nearly $40.00 monthly price tag and I would give it a negative star rating if this were possible. Needless to say, they wouldn't last a day in an even slightly more rigorously competitive market than the captive conditions they're operating within.
Why do I say everything I've stated above? Let's see, where do I start? For one, there is no elevator access to the second floor. So if you have any sort of disability that precludes the ability to safely climb stairs, a good portion of the gym won't be accessible to you. In this way, you would be getting even less bang for your buck, simply by dint of being a member with a disability. Yes, there are people with various sorts of disabilities which prohibit the use of stairs, who nonetheless are capable of engaging in regular physical exercise and very much benefit from it. I'm one of them!
Moreover, most of the better quality, fully functional equipment just so happens to be on the second floor, which again, might be inaccessible to disabled members who might otherwise be able to make good use of the equipment. That was the situation I was in, whenever I made the mistake of signing up for a membership with them a few years back. While I have the exertional ability to do very high intensity, long-duration cardio sessions, psychomotor and equilibrium impairments prevent me from being able to safely climb stairs. I only purchased a membership with them because I was new to town they were the only gym in Pratt. I simply thought that as long as there were at least some decent exercise options on the first floor, I could make do with the situation. However, this was not the case.
Most of the cardio machines on the first floor were either inadequate in the resistance and range of motion they provide and/or had some mechanical defect that limited the full utility of the equipment. During the entire time I had my membership with them, there was only one fully operational item of cardio equipment on the first floor which provided both adequate resistance and range of motion for me. Therefore, It was always a major frustration of mine, that I could not safely access the upper floor which had most of the equipment best suited to both my fitness level and preferred exercise modalities.
They really need to do a complete overhaul of all of their cardio equipment but they don't seem all that interested in doing so. In fact, they don't really seem to care about members who are serious about pursuing purposeful, scientifically informed, health-focused fitness routines and I don't imagine this situation has changed any since I last attended their lousy gym.
And finally, a good part of their clientele are loud, obnoxious, low IQ lowlife with nothing better to do with their time but spend half the evening in the gym taking up space and making noise. Many of them will regularly grunt loudly, slam weights, and will practically camp out in front of an article of equipment, monopolizing it from other members. Not to mention people will let their kids just run around the gym floor unsupervised, getting underfoot, often using the equipment like indoor playground equipment. I would also regularly see members taking fitness selfies in the locker room and very little, if anything is ever done or said about these sorts of behaviors.
Because Blythe is such a subpar gym, I now simply resolve to either workout outdoors or with my own equipment. My hope now is that my routine will prove effective over the long term given my unique health and fitness needs.
I really didn't want to post this review, but eventually thought it best to do so in hopes of possibly preventing someone else, particularly another disabled person, from making the same mistake I did, by becoming a member. My advice, if you have other means of exercise at your disposal, don't waste your...
Read moreI've been using Blythe while in town visiting family . My family recently moved to Pratt and I got a memebership. Good equipment and friendly staff. My only complaint and reason for 4/5 stars is the hours are limited. They don't open until 8 on Saturdays and they are closed on Sundays. I paid less per month for 24/7 access to a gym in Manhattan for 2 people but I understand Pratt is a much smaller community. If they could implement a FOB system for 24/7 access or even open an hour earlier, I would...
Read moreCalled for prices; didn't want to tell me the monthly membership cost over the phone. But bragged about how beautiful the facility is. Doesn't offer hardly any classes. No personal trainers. I had to ask again what the membership prices were and was shocked by how expensive it is. I came from LA Fitness and paid half the price a month, had full access to the gym and had my own personal trainer once a...
