A real review from a true golfer, not the weekend hacker. Very disappointed overall. First .. yes the scenery is nice. The chipping and putting greens are good as well. That’s about it. For the true golfer this is pure target golf 100%. For the positive .. the greens were in excellent condition. The sand is very nice and real ‘golf sand’ not the usual rock sand mixture. However for the actual golf it’s very poor. The driving range is beat up and filled with crab grass. Majority of the tee boxes need dirt added or re-sodded to make them flat. Many blind tee shot’s especially if you play the ball from the black gold tee box. The overall design of the golf course itself is more “resort type” design. Squeezing a golf course in where generally a decent designed golf course would not fit. For the conditions of the course, the fairway grass was very long and the rough was even worse. The tee boxes were in bad shape and long grass as well. Did speak with a worker and asked if their mowers were broken? He actually laughed and said he gets asked that daily. Then said they probably mowed 2-3 days ago. Sadly .. the lack of course management made the goofy golf design even more disappoint to play. There were two bottles of water in the cooler however no drinking water or cart person on the course. Generally people say “With a little effort” the golf course could be better. They cannot change the design whatsoever however .. mowing the grass would make...
Read moreIt’s tough to describe this course. I’ve never played(age 65, 5 handicap) that is so visually pleasing and brutal at the same time. The good- views, conditions (although greens were very slow), service from the pro. The average- slow greens, very difficult to get your sight lines from the tees. In their defense it was my first time playing but some tee shots were very difficult to figure out. It was a lot of hit and hope. Luckily most of my drives found fairways. The rough is very penal (lush). I was playing with two potential members (both early 80’s) and they were talking about buying a place on the course. At the end of the round that was NOT happening. I am fairly strong for my age but the elevation changes (almost every hole) made it extremely difficult for the to have any fun. It was a tough walk and we were in carts! I did not like that the waters coolers were not filled- Covid excuse. Sorry folks not buying that. They did give us two water bottles which was nice but their is zero courses still using that excuse. No turn “shack” to get drinks and no beverage cart person. Having said all this it’s a beautiful track but if you are older and not as strong it may be a bit too much. They stopped playing after 15 holes….one last thought-the ladies tees were obviously an afterthought once the course was designed-way too many long forced carries. Great course to play once but a steady diet especially if you are older...
Read moreWOW! sums it all it. I am a golf fanatic. If I could I would be a caddie on either the PGA or the LPGA. I love Golf. This is the best course in Prescott. It has real black tees that you need to be really good to play from just like Troon North. It also has white tees that will help make playing the course easier for men that are 15 and above handicap. Put your driver away you can't hit straight anyway. For the 14 and below the gold tees will make you sweat and get excited at every shot as you dial in on that pin.
For the ladies the basic red tees that are really just right. For the low handicap ladies green tees that make it just enough of a challenge to soothe that competitive spirit in you and have fun kicking some men's butts.
Lets finish this off by saying the bar, food, and staff were just amazing. Great selection of tap beers, the food is outstanding and fresh. The staff treated us like kings. I must say the rates to join and play are well within the range of the average retire or soon to be retire like me.
Some say it is too tough, to them I say stop playing the back tees, you are not a scratch golfer and you don't look like more of a man back there. Your handicap is your swing. Stop by the pro shop get some lessons and spend some...
