It has been several weeks since I had to removed my mare from this facility. During the tour everything seemed like it would be a great fit for my easy mare, but my friend who leases the mare and I were mislead and lied to. We were told that there were several different options for turnout schedules and we could find what fit the mare best, and that she would be introduced to and eventually turned out with a pair of gentle older geldings. The first week seemed to go decently well, there weren't any obvious issues. The second week, however, became incredibly dangerous for the wellbeing of my horse. She was turned out with the big herd who chased her hard. She's not a dominant mare and wasn't causing any issues, but one of the geldings in there really had it out for her. We tried to wait it out and let her settle. The herd was not giving in and would not let her drink. My friend witnessed her pee and it was brown which has NEVER happened, she drinks exceptionally well and when taken to a water source was absolutely gulping water down. The barn owner was unconcerned and suggested that she must have been in heat rather than critically dehydrated. My friend then had to go up there twice per day in the following couple of days to offer her water at a trough to which she guzzled water all 4 times. This is when I asked to change her management up to better suit her health and was met with a hard No from the barn owner. We were not told that the other turnout options require a vet prescription to be in a Full Care stall that we PAY for. The only option the barn owner gave us was to up her grain or add a fat supplement to her diet. She's already on a high fat grain and is an easy keeper. She needed water and time to rest to eat her feed that I provided as well as the alfalfa she was supposed to be receiving daily. Given the my way or the highway attitude, I elected to immediately remove my mare from the facility as she was rapidly dropping weight and becoming an anxious mess. Upon loading her feed bin, my friend and I discovered that she had 18lbs more feed left over than she should have based on the quantity that we had provided which meant that she had missed 6 FULL FEEDINGS while in their care for only 2 weeks. That to me is unacceptable and inexcusable. It also explains why she had so rapidly lost weight and muscle while at this barn. She has since moved to a facility that feeds her appropriately and she is gaining her weight back. The new barn owner also doesn't ignore texts as the barn owner at Freedom did. I do have text evidence to back up my claims and have photos of the condition of my mare when she arrived at the facility and when she left to show a drastic weight loss. I definitely could never recommend Freedom Farms as a boarding facility given my experience and I'm forever thankful that my mare was removed from that situation before she colicked from dehydration. If you're considering this facility, please ask for clarification on EVERYTHING during your tour. Things were not accurately represented and had all of the details been provided in the beginning, my mare would have never been boarded at this facility in the first place.

Rachel really knows what she's doing. Other barn parents are happy and satisfied with lessons and content kids are learning. She's someone who works hard and knows what she's doing. She doesn't judge and is very understanding. All horses are well kept and...
