Decided to update my review based on the owner's unprofessional response to me and others that gave them a low rating. Granted, my original review "Way too many bugs and mosquitoes" was not helpful, nor is it something they can control. So I do apologize for my original comments. While the owner's response was unprofessional, I must applaud them for the funny/clever response. That being said, I'll elaborate further on my experience at CLAS Ropes Course and Canoe Rental:
EXPERIENCE: I came here for a summer work party/activity. We paid for adults and children so we could all experience the ropes course and other activities they have to offer. Upon arriving we quickly learned that the main adult ropes course (Adventure Park) was closed. This is why we came here in the first place was to experience the main ropes course... All they ended up having available to us was a small zip line for kids, swing, rock climbing wall, and another one where you jump off to grab onto a ring. What we paid was also supposed to include some kind of boat thing on the river, which was also closed. So essentially we paid for multiple adults for no reason as the main ropes course was closed off. Most of us just stood around watching the kids as we were unable to experience the adventure park or anything on the river. I will admit that the kids did have fun on the zip-line, swing, rock wall, etc. which is why I gave 2 stars instead of 1.
STAFF: While we were there, there was minimal staff working there, and to be perfectly honest I didn't see one adult that worked there. Maybe they were in the back somewhere, but I didn't see one adult staff. Each person working there had to only be 12 years old, with one person maybe at the age of 15. Trained or not, hopefully you're good with the safety of yourself and/or children at the hands of a 12 year old.
EQUIPMENT: Some of the equipment there seemed old and needs to be replaced. While I'm sure it's all inspected, they should definitely make some updates like the rock wall that had peeling paint/wood.
BUGS: While I do enjoy the outdoors and expect there to be bugs and mosquitoes, there were a LOT of mosquitoes here. I'm sure it's due to them being so close to the lake and having standing water nearby, but at least they should recommend bug spray on their website or to people coming to their location. My family sprayed bug spray all over and we still got bites all over our backs, and other areas. You could barely stand/walk around without having to swat mosquitoes out of your face and eyes every two seconds. Again, I understand it's not their fault, but if you do go here, bring lots...
Read moreUPDATE after business response below: This shows what type of business this is and how it’s run. ————- Maybe we just had a bad instructor, she looked to be 17 (and likely the granddaughter of the man taking our money). It was july 2. We walked out. She wasn’t speaking to everyone; she was having everyone tie their own harness and no one understood what she was saying. She didn’t acknowledge us. We had a 6 year old with us and she offered no help. She couldn’t have cared any less. Usually with other ropes courses/zip line, the instructors will put everyone in their harness and tie the ropes to ensure safety. At other places, the instructors are speaking and explaining everything to group so that everyone can hear. At other places, it’s organized and safety is paramount. This girl was none of this. We couldn’t believe how disorganized it was and that everyone was standing around trying to figure out how to tie their own ropes and everyone was confused and looking at her, trying to hear what she was saying. She saw us and we were obviously confused and had a child and she never acknowledged us or offered help. The first thing my husband said when we walked up before we even started was, “I don’t think I want to entrust my safety and our son’s safety to this girl.” I agreed. We still stayed a bit longer to see if things got better but after no acknowledgement of us having a young child and no one being able to hear her, yet she kept talking, and after no offers to help and having to tie your own ropes…we walked out. The grandfather (assuming) tried to stop us as we left, but we told him She wasn’t a qualified instructor (at least not what we were used to with other companies) and that she couldn’t have cared less. He didn’t even offer a refund of the $115 we had just paid. We got in car and drove to Park City’s Olympic Village. We’ve done the zip line and obstacle course with our son over there and the instructors are very hands-on and they are securing your equipment for you and explaining everything very well and very organized.I suggest everyone do the same. Plus, in Park City, you aren’t at someone’s house, on their private land — this place is Mom-n-Pop shop. Definitely not somewhere to trust the...
Read moreAlways a line of cars for the Halloween cruise so I anticipated a fairly good experience. The website stated it offered an experience of tales of ghostly things pirates looting the banks and stories. It was nothing of the sort. There was 1 attraction that surprised the riders something pulled by a rope out of the water 1 person acting as a pirate coming to the boat with mints for candy to be passed around and the driver or rope puller talked about just what the rope course was random conversations about herself and her being able to do the job but dont tell her boss when she slipped up a few dull jokes and the cruise was short cold slow float down the river with pumpkins lighting the bank. I do give 2 thumbs up for the pumpkin carvings there were 100 pumpkins in total and they spent time doing them well. Suggestion would be to make the experience a bit more haunting maybe characters in costume interacting while people watched the repeat short flicks on the big screen TV surprise scares around corners maybe even some games like bobbing for apples anything to help pass the time waiting ( we waited 1 1/2 hrs 30 min prior to our cruise time and an hour to actual getting on the boat) not impressed. They offered $1 off for entire group we had 3 and an infant 1 person got sick and had to leave. They gave us their portion $ back which was very kind but deducting the $1 off so a group of 2 or less I'm assuming is not reliable for the coupon. They have a Christmas event as well I was hoping this first and maybe last trip to be more fulfilling so that my whole family could plan an evening for dinner, then Christmas cruise for a nice easy family get together avoiding crowds but I honestly feel waiting in line for Santa at the mall would be more enjoyable. I apologize if this offends the rope course staff but criticism is offered in good intention for bettering future experiences of your customers. Perhaps a 2nd chance from myself and...
