Had a breakdown, kept shredding belts. Couple of visits from the usual truck stop boys, determined it was related to fan hub. So, called these guys, and road call came out in a reasonable amount of time, to identify it was bolts sheered off… need a tow, which they provide.
That's where it got weird. Already without heat for awhile, tow truck took a while to get there, then tow truck didn't have heat. Was told it'd be done that afternoon, on a Friday, took me up to a hotel. Well, my company mechanic was told it was pulled in at 8-8:30 in the morning. At 10:30 I was told it was getting ready to get pulled in. All the red flags went off. So, got a ride to my house, because I knew what was about to happen - wasn't disappointed. 11:30, showed up to grab some stuff out on way by, and still was on the wrecker. It wasn't worked on until the $40/hr rate hike was in effect. Now, wasn't my money, per se, but does affect the company. Also, being done on a Sunday afternoon versus Friday afternoon, as I was told would be, that directly took money from my family. Then there was a loaded tanker that they didn't support in their gravel lot that started sinking, another driver passing through saw this and that had to get corrected during this extended repair time. When I did get the unit back, and drove it, I found they did not replace a compression fitting on the hub and left the air line disconnected. Compression fittings are one time use, and quick connects aren't all that expensive. Especially with what was charged. So, after wondering why I had a constant air leak for awhile, and fan wouldn't turn off (wasn't noticed when picking it up, because wanted away from the place), took a fitting, replaced it in about 10 minutes, including having to find my tools, and the fan is operating correctly. That lack of detail is extremely concerning to me, cheap part, and should have been replaced with the part off the engine.
So, for 2-3 bolts extracted, replaced, and around a 50 mile tow, it was 3.75 days and $3300 around. I asked around next trip, and local reputation is they used to be good, not anymore. This place has some capability, but from this experience, has been placed on my and my company's "never call again" list. Have also warned every owner op and company driver I know who uses this route. Not sure where these positive reviews are coming from. Maybe for simple stuff or quick repairs they are okay, but for the money conscious or the guy who owns the truck, better to use wreckers and repair services out of Amarillo or DFW, as it'll come out cheaper and faster.
TL;DR:
They'll get you going, but it's going to cost WAY more than it should, and will take much, much longer. Used to be good, not anymore, and their time estimations will be 3 days longer...
Read moreIf I could give 0 stars, I would. I had a tire blowout in the middle of the night in a small town, and this was the only shop open. They advertise 24/7 roadside assistance, and since they were only about 7–8 miles away (less than a 10-minute drive), I thought it would be a lifesaver. Instead, they took advantage of my situation and charged me $450 just to remove one tire and put on my spare — a job that takes less than 10 minutes.
This is nothing short of price gouging. Most roadside assistance services charge somewhere between $75–$150 for the same job, yet I was billed three to six times that amount. No breakdown of costs, just an outrageous bill for the most basic service.
While the staff themselves were polite, the business practice is unacceptable. They clearly knew I had no other options and used that against me.
I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone, locals or travelers. If they treated me this way, I can’t imagine how many others have been taken advantage of. Avoid this shop at all costs.
Just take the time to read their 1 star reviews and the large amount of people they did this to. Im not the only one.
**UPDATE: Just wanted to do a quick update being as the owner replied to my original review which just further proves my point. Extreme price gouging. They claim that they charge $100 less per hour thsn any other shop. IN WHAT PLANET? The fact that they are still trying to justify charging $450 to remove a tire and place my spare on is quite literally cynical. And its even funnier that they mentioned that if I waited until the morning it would have been $55, but since it was at night the $450 is justified? Or normal? So charging and extra $400 because you know that people have no other choice. This is the whole essence of my comment. Whether you disclose your prices or not, it is pure price gouging and predatory business practice and you know it. I just urge everyone to read their 1 star reviews. There are many others who suffered the same fate as me. Unbelievable. Should be ashamed of yourself and the way you run...
Read moreI was stranded when the moving truck I was driving stopped in the middle of nowhere. 287 Diesel Service was the closest place that had after hours service that had an agreement with the moving truck company. I was over an hours drive from their shop. Even though Jason was on another job he called me when he was done and asked me a few questions and then gave me an eta of yet another hour for him to make the drive from Quanah to Benjamin, the closest town to where I was. The service team had given him the wrong phone number but Jason worked to figure out the correct number through trial and error. When Jason arrived he was courteous and professional from the git-go. When the computer didn't show any reason for the truck stopping Jason didn't give up and started physically checking things. When he found the problem he fixed it and made sure everything was running well. He then offered to follow me to make sure things continued to run well. I told hm that the truck sounded better than when I picked it up He asked me to call him later to make sure the truck had no other problems. I appreciated his service, courtesy and concern for my wellbeing. Even though Jason was a young man I was impressed with his mechanical knowledge and professionalism. I'm keeping his card in my wallet and if I have any mechanical problems within their service area I will certainly call 287 Diesel service. If Jason is an example of their service quality and their commitment to their customers, they are truly a fine company to do...
