Today was a rough day, I had a hook that could knock out Tyson. But on to the review. As usual, I will break down the different course aspects.
Amenities 5/5 - Driving range, sizable pitching chipping green with bunker, large separate putting green.
Tee Boxes 4/5 - Well kept, not bare like some other courses on their par 3s.
Fairways 4/5 - While I personally didn't find the fairway often, the times I did weren't bad. It's not plush like the 5 star courses, and the drainage could be better in some areas.
Greens 4/5 - These are year old greens and you can tell. There are no deformations to note, they are super firm and roll about a 10.5/11 so a high soft approach is key
Layout 5/5 - I really like the layout of the course. It starts and ends with a dolgleg right par 5, with plenty of different challenges sprinkled throughout. Some holes require forced layups, while some can pay off big if you can get over some trees, or keep the ball straight for long enough.
Overall 4.5/5 Lives up to the stars on the signage. I played this course for the first time back in high school and it's gone through some changes but never...
Read moreBayonet at Puppy Creek is a golf course I recommend to everyone! Whether you are in Pinehurst, Fayetteville, or traveling down I-95 it is worth the trip. The fairways are absolutely pristine and remind me of being at a very nice private club. The rough isn't to long to where you regret being in it. Overall the golf course is a well thought out design and will make you hit every club in your bag. The bentgrass greens are as true as they come and the other players take great care of it. The staff is very friendly and reminds me of the southern hospitality that you find at many of the nice clubs.
I spoke with one of the staff members and they were telling me about all the renovations that were made over this past winter. They have filled in a lot of their bunkers on a few holes and they took out a Willow tree on Hole #7. These guys are doing a great job and I will be bringing my friends...
Read moreBayonet has such potential that I wanted to give it four stars. However, I am rating it based on how it actually is right now. This is still early in the season so there is not a lot of grass in the fairways. Also the greens need a little extra love. One thing we all noticed as we played, where the cups were set into the greens needed to be tapped down. There were way to many mounds around the holes making for strange breaks and lip outs when you putted. Some more sand in the traps would have helped as well. There are some pot bunkers witch you rarely see in this area and creeks that wind throughout the course. So it can be a challenge . I would like to go back in the summer just to compare and see if I felt differently about...
