BEWARE I would not advise to use this company. They are straight up fraudulent and mislabeling the items they sell, selling cheaper shredded cedar at the higher price for shredded redwood. The two mulches look nothing alike. I have been laying shredded redwood in our yard for months doing little areas at a time. I was running low so he got me another yard. However, as soon as he came home I could see it looked totally different and nothing like the other 6 yards I had laid down. I had tried to have my husband exchange the product since I immediately could see it was a different mulch. When he went back to exchange this yard and told them there was a mix up and he needed shredded redwood, and he would like to exchange for the correct mulch, they said "oh no we gave you the correct mulch that is shredded redwood." So my husband returned with the same bad mulch. So I tried to use the cedar they were claiming was redwood in my yard next to the almost 6 yards of redwood I had already laid down. The color and the texture were completely different. It looked terrible side by side since it was so vastly different. Large wood chunks in the cedar. And besides just looking bad, it was not nearly as hairy as the "gorilla hair" shredded redwood and did not stick well to my very inclined yard. I brought 2 buckets with samples of the two mulches I had received to another mulch supplier just for validation and they identified one as redwood and the other as cedar and said redwood would never be so chunky. As did my landscaper, he said no way these are the same mulch. I brought the samples to Roseville hasties again, showed them side by side, and he still refused to acknowledge they were totally different mulches and he had sold the wrong product at the wrong price. I then drove 45 minutes to the Sacramento office since this is the main office and asked to speak to a manager. I asked him to identify the mulches in the two buckets. He said one was cedar and one was redwood. As did every other valid person who looked at the two. But then I told him the situation and said I wanted my $60 back. He went into a back office with some others then came back and said it probably was shredded redwood that just shredded differently. The two mulches were literally different colors and different consistency and looked nothing alike. He had said so himself when first presented with them. These guys are just awful. I don't know how the level of customer service has deteriorated so low, but I can assure you that the service I received from Hasties has been one of the worst I've ever experienced, and now justifies my warning to all potential customers. On Tues. July 7th, I ordered and paid for 2 Yds of gravel (salt & pepper). I postponed the delivery date to the following day in order to confirm project assistance. The following day (Wed 8th) I called the main office to request delivery on Thurs 9th. I was informed by the young woman taking the call (Kaylynn) that Thurs was booked, and the earliest time frame would be Friday for delivery. I went ahead and booked for Friday, and then asked for the time of delivery, and was told the delivery schedule was established at close of business, the day before deliveries. I was informed that I could call at 7:00am on day of delivery, and would be given a three hour time window for my delivery. On Friday the 10th, my girlfriend called at 7:04, and after providing info to confirm the sale, was told that our delivery was scheduled between 1-3pm. After 3:30 passed, I called Hasties to inquire about the delay. The manager got on the phone after a young woman informed me that my delivery was scheduled for Thursday the following week. This is sheer incompetence, and even though the manager tried to assuage my frustration with a delivery for the following day, I declined and demanded my money back. I will never do business with Hasties again. The managers excuse? People make mistakes. What she ignored, was that someone lied to my girlfriend the morning of the 10th at 7:04 am. Read moreSo my fiance and I decided to try and save some money by going with Hastie's to fill our backyard with soil. BIG mistake. We gave the person there the correct measurements of our garden beds and they told us how much dirt we would need and the price. I figured it would be expensive so the price didn't really throw me off.
WELL, day of delivery arrives and they deliver a mountain of soil which ends up being 4-5 times more dirt than we need. We call them and finally talk to a competent employee who is completely confused as to why the previous employee told us we needed so much dirt based on our measurements (yes, their mistake, not ours).
So here we are, all done transferring dirt into our backyard and still have a mountain of dirt taking up the sidewalk and half of our street. We soon find out Hastie's is not responsible for picking up dirt and it's something they never do. After many discussions with people at Hastie's, they finally agree to come out 4 days later and pick up the remaining dirt and buy it back from us, BUT, we have to pay them $220 to pick it up. Seeing as I have ZERO other options, I agreed.
They picked up the dirt a week ago and I am still waiting for my refund for the leftover dirt. My suggestion, be VERY careful with these people. I will likely be going somewhere else next time. Terrible...
