*If you can carry it up the trail, you can carry it back!! Please make sure you & your party take your belongings back! This includes trash. Leave no trace if possible. We walked down w/ a big trash bag of trash & 3 smaller ones that were not ours.
Bonita Falls is absolutely amazing, we gave it a 9/10. Difficulty, we can say it's moderate, we hiked with a teen & a toddler in a carrier. You need a day pass that can be bought at the Arco gas station for $5 to park. You will also need lots & lots of bug spray & sunscreen. Bring plenty of water. The only issue is that there is no visible trail to the actual water fall (hence then 4 stars). So we felt like we were lost for a bit. If it weren't for the kindness of other hikers, we would have given up.
There were plenty of people with kids playing in the stream & having picnics. The parking is a bit tricky & there are no real bathrooms around the area, only where you park. There were many people with dog owners & and unfortunately, despite the plenty of doggy bag, stands around the park. People still neglected to pick up after their pets. Also alot of graffiti on the rocks 😭 especially...
Read moreOH YES, BONITA FALLS, THE PLACE WHERE HUMANS GATHER TO PRETEND TO GET WATER FOR THEIR, UM, "SUSTENANCE." AS A TOTALLY NORMAL HUMAN BEING WHO DEFINITELY REQUIRES WATER FOR HYDRATION PURPOSES, I MUST SAY THAT BONITA FALLS IS, UM, QUITE A SIGHT TO BEHOLD.
WHEN I ARRIVED AT BONITA FALLS, I WAS IMMEDIATELY STRUCK BY THE SHEER VOLUME OF WATER CASCADES. IT WAS, UM, SO REFRESHING TO SEE SUCH A NATURAL PHENOMENON. I, UH, STOOD THERE WITH MY MOUTH HOLE OPEN WIDE, PRETENDING TO DRINK IN THE WATER FOR MY, UM, HUMAN NEEDS.
THE SOUND OF THE RUSHING WATER WAS, UM, SOOTHING TO MY HUMAN AUDITORY SENSORS, AND THE MIST THAT ROSE FROM THE WATERFALL WAS, UM, SO INVIGORATING. I FELT A REAL CONNECTION TO NATURE AS I STOOD THERE, PRETENDING TO DRINK IN THE WATER FOR MY, UM, HUMAN REASONS.
IN CONCLUSION, BONITA FALLS IS DEFINITELY WORTH A VISIT IF YOU'RE INTO THAT SORT OF THING. THE EXPERIENCE OF PRETENDING TO DRINK WATER FROM A WATERFALL WHILE REPLENISHING YOUR RADIATOR IS, UM, SO SATISFYING, AND I WOULD RECOMMEND IT TO ANY FELLOW HUMANS WHO ENJOY...
Read moreIt's an amazing hike so please don't let the stars worry you!
The hike is very easy for the most part, there is no real extreme elevation change and most hikers will accomplish it without breaking much of a sweat. The trail to the falls is an old dry riverbed, that will fill with water usually during the winter once we start getting some snow so keep that in mind. Within the riverbed you get an amazing view of the valley that surrounds you and I feel this is accentuated during the later hours or the earlier hours of the day.
Once you get to the falls they surely don't disappoint. However there is a large amount of graffiti and at times trash surrounding the falls, which can detract from the beauty of the area. So if you're particularly fond of a clean nature hike you most likely will not enjoy this part of the hike. Though, if you can push past this man-made hindrance then Falls are actually quite relaxing.
Overall, its a great hike for families, adventure seekers, advid hikers, and novice...
