Iโve been coming to Cool Spot for 3 years now. For the most part I enjoy their meats, deli and pastries. However , I have seen a trend of selling expired food items and have learned to check closely before purchasing. Last weekend I came to the store with my son ,from out of town, to purchase meat. I bought the butter burgers and cooked them on the last โ sell by โ date- they smelled a bit off but figured they were ok by date- they were not - had to throw them out. When I spoke to the manager about this, she said it was my fault because I waited until the last day to use. My son bought 2 steaks- attempted to cook them 2 days later, but one was absolutely rancid and had to be thrown out prior to cooking. He said the expiration date was April of 2000. ( 24 1/2 years ago) when I tried to discus this with the manager, she informed me they donโt date their fresh cut meat - when I asked how to determine the expiration date, she told me I needed to google expiration dates and learn they really mean anything. ( very condescending). She then tried to make this about us not doing the right thing, because I waited a week to notify her. She said my son should have called them right away and not call his mother to handle his problems ( again very condescending) I also bought to her attention that I had almost purchased a frozen pizza that was 4 months past itโs sell by date - I reported it to a cashier , but when I returned weeks later those same pizzas were still for sale. She said she was not the manager at that time. I generally like this store and their products, but I must warn you to check dates and freshness closely. I told the manager at the start of our conversation, I did not want anything from her, just wanted to privately bring an issue to her attention- but after being so disrespected, Iโm not sure I will return. I believe she needs to learn the fine art of the โ blameless apology โ and โ the customer is kingโ , otherwise you may not have any...
ย ย ย Read moreI LOVE stopping here for treats every other week! I got the apple crisp pie because they didnt have the brownies I'd bought last time and OMG ๐ I was NOT disappointed!!!! I hope and pray they have one when I go back in 2 weeks because you never know what the baker is going to make. There were like 5 different flavors of pie to choose from when I chose this one. It's never the same thing when I go in, which is what keeps me coming back! ๐๐ฅฐ๐ Oh, and dont think you cant go because your bank account is too low. They accept EBT (foodstamp card) also! Idk about other states, but we're from WV and ours worked. The drive is worth it for these sweet treats. Next time, I pray they have the meatloaf dinner in the hot section. I'm getting it whether my husband eats meatloaf or not! He can order chicken or pizza or have something else from their menu ๐ P.S.- the whole pie was like $13.99. I was too excited to dig in to take a picture of the whole thing...
ย ย ย Read moreReally a nice store. A gal came by with a sample of frozen Cherry Nut Custard - it was delish! (So I got two scoops and a quart!) Also got my white Colby cheese, which you can't find, just anywhere. I will be back when I bring a cooler, since I love over a 1/2 hour away.
Ps: not too happy today! - I wanted to try some kind of brisket in the hot part of the deli and when I asked if it was marinated in a tomato based sauce, he wasn't sure - went back to ask someone AND that person said to him... "we don't give out that information - that's not our policy!" REALLY? I HAVE AN ALLERGY - SO...
