I was very new in the hobby and naively purchased an arcade game at a tremendous premium with the understanding it would be âfully restoredâ. Was required to place a non-refundable 50% deposit on the machine. Was promised the âfully restoredâ machine in 60 days. After more than 90 days and several phone calls I was told it was ready. A very rude woman was clear that the second half of the deposit was required before I could take it. In fact this woman was rude at every turn. Cosmetically it was not nearly âfully restoredâ. The decals were either missing, peeling, or bubbled. The lights were not properly installed. Only one speaker of the two was working. Mechanically it made a hum from a short and completely would turn off from time to time. When asked about a âfree playâ option I was told a ugly hole could be drilled and a button placed on the side. When brought to Tom Hintenachâs attention he told me he offered a 30 day warranty but the soonest he would could come to help would be 28 days in to the 30 day warranty. He also denied saying he would âfully restoreâ the game but only get it working. This was a lie and what I found to be the most distressing about the situation. For the ridicules price I paid I was expecting much more then what I received. Finally, Hintenach looked for any way possible to void the warranty. Even so far as saying if I opened the cabinet I voided the warranty. The 30 year old game had an electrical short inside a wooden cabinet and this guy is telling me if I open the cabinet I void the warranty? I just decided to fix the machine myself and learn in the process.Having no idea where to turn I asked some questions on the forums about how to resolve these issues. I received lots of help and advice from the forum members. However, Tom Hintenach was cyber stalking my questions and answers in the feed to his own means. He used my attempts to render the game safe to support his argument why to void the warranty. Instead of answering even one my questions, offering any help or any advice he instead just documented when I tried to get answers elsewhere. That's just indicative of a petty and vindictive bad business person. It ended up being more fun then I realized. I actually did âfully restoreâ the machine into a wonderful gem. I replaced all the side art, the spinner, the backlights lights, the translite, the inside decals, fuses and speakers. I also found and installed a free play chip that allowed the game to stay in attract mode and did not need a hole drilled in the side. Sadly however in addition to being ripped off for a game that I naively overpaid for I had to invest another $600. I asked from some consideration of this extra expense and a refund for the additional $600 I had to pay. No consideration was given. Since then my machine has found a new home. Through this experience I learned two things. How to work with and restore vintage arcade games and to never do business with Tom Hintenach the âCoin Op Docâ. I have met many great honest and ethical people in this business. My recommend is to steer clear of this guy and keep looking for...
Read moreTom is a nice guy, but he really needs to stop cutting corners in his work if he hasn't already. I have purchased two pinball machines from previous owners that had originally purchased them from him, and the amount of hacks and shoddy work that I found after going over the machines is nothing that I should find done by a supposed professional technician. Wires were replaced with extension cord wire, electrical tape used where shrink wrap should have been, incorrect size and length hardware used on multiple components. Now, he can repair almost anything don't get me wrong, but PLEASE, PLEASE, if you decide to use him check the machine over thoroughly before purchasing...
Read moreFirst time using him. I thought he was very good at fixing my Jukebox. I was out of his area of travel, about 1.5 hours drive. Very nice man explaining what all he was doing (fixing the Pin Bank, and servicing). Coming to my place again this week for a different problem I'm having with my Jukebox (just stopped working). Will keep getting him if needed. Very nice to talk with while he was working on my jukebox explaining what all he was doing. I will be calling him once again for a service call to oil/grease parts needed as a yearly maintenance since I don't use...
