I decided to get into archery earlier this year (which turned out to be ideal timing due to the Covid shelter in place order) and after doing some online research I stumbled upon Mountain Archery. Not knowing anything about archery I was initially hesitant to call a store to discuss where to start and what I should or shouldn't look for in a bow, arrows, a sight, a rest, etc. I simply didn't want to be upsold on something that I didn't need or that wouldn't work for my goals (3D target and hunting).
I decided to reach out and ended up speaking to one of their online sales managers (I don't recall his name). He was extremely helpful and answered all of my questions and then some. Now initially I didn't know how helpful he truly was since this was my first time shopping for anything archery related.
He helped me select a Mathew's Traverse with a Spot Hogg sight, Hamskea rest and even helped me build a set of custom arrows out of their clearance rack which were matched to poundage range and fletched according to the natural spin direction of the Zebra strings (I didn't know anything about fletching directions or its benefit). He requested that the tech back out the limb bolts to decrease my draw weight while I learn the technique of drawing a bow back correctly and had the bow sighted in to a perfect bullet hole.
Since my original purchase I have visited a number of local bow shops and each time I feel like the sales person didn't really know what they were talking about. One of the so-called experts didn't know about different fletching directions and he insisted that because I am right handed I have to use a right offset for my fletchings. Needless to say I have been less impressed with the local shops and I continue to shop online at Mountain Archery instead for all of my archery needs.
I recently called and order another set of custom fletched arrows as I begin preparing for my first bow hunting season.
I'd highly recommend (and have recommended) Mountain Archery for all of your...
Read moreI would give these guys 100 stars if I could. I have never bought Sitka gear before and with it being so expensive I was scared to make the wrong choices. I had an upstate NY hunt planned and wanted to be prepared since I am from Florida. They helped me through what I needed and even told me "yeah you don't need that." What sales guy ever says yeah you don't need that?! Great guys, honest, great service, fast shipping,, price matched other websites, very knowledgeable, and just plain awesome. I would be willing to pay more now just to buy it from these guys to ensure they stay around.
Hunters... give these guys a call and give them your money instead of the big stores. I will be back for more gear after my hunt! I will update my review to see if their recommendations hold true on what I needed and bought. I have no doubt so far. Thanks Mountain Archery for being what most stores aren't.
1/17/23 Update After my hunt all of the recommendations held true. The clothes were very warm and yet oddly still breathable. They vented well when walking long distances and were warm when idle for hours. Sitka is some great gear and worth the money. Mountain Archery is my go to place now for Sitka hunting gear and the knowledgeable staff for...
Read moreI was in the market for some new Sitka gear, and it's the yearly 20%-30% off throughout various retailers. Mountain Archery was the only place I could find that had my size in stock. Elated, I placed my very large order, as their website said everything I ordered, 8 items, was "unlimited in stock." However, a day later, I received an e-mail from a sales rep stating everything with the exception of 3 items was backordered until June '17. I returned to their site and even after notifying me of the backorder, the website still stated "unlimited in stock."
I was very dissatisfied with this and originally suggested to shy away. I initially wrote the aforementioned review for a negative rating, however, much to my surprise I was contacted by the President and Founder of Mountain Archery via email. He was very forthcoming and explained the position the inventory was in with the volume of sales due to the discounted price and worked with me in a very reasonable and professional manner to reach a resolve. Customer service, especially of this caliber is hard to come by, and I know I greatly appreciate it. For that reason alone I recommend Mountain Archery and say thank you to Mr. Smith for his...
