10/10 don’t recommend. I came here two years ago I took a break due to having children and wanting to dedicate some time to my babies. I recently re enrolled my self back to the PMA program, and unfortunately will not be continuing with this institute nomore. I am in the night class right now, started the class with only 4 students in my class, next module came and now it’s only 1 other student in my class besides me. My instructor does not do no hands on training or learning, you have your “seniority” classmates teaching you what they know so far. This module I sat down for 4 hours doing NOTHING but vitals & two other demonstrations that my 18 year old fellow classmate taught me. There should be no reason why I am paying all this money to be taught by students who are not certified. When I came back I was just put right where I left of. The first week there I had no text book, no scrubs, no acesss to nothing. I got docked points off of the missing assignments I turned in due to not having access, the next module I got assigned a teacher who I have no communication with. A different instructor (same one I had previous mod) was my instructor for lab while I had a different instructor online. I would email her any questions I had she wouldn’t respond or grade my assignments till a few days later. Recently I decided not to go or pay due to lack of teaching and how unorganized this whole school is. They called me saying they were going to withdraw me for not making my $50 monthly payment. This goes to show, they only care about the amount of administration they bring in and how much we pay. The modules are not organized you. You can go in your first module jumping straight to do injections and blood draw when we should be learning how to take vitals first and the beginning steps of being a medical assistant. This program also needs to be updated, everything they do teach you is super outdated and how no relevances to what you have to do in the medical fields. I have encounter several students who come back after graduating stating what they learn at school besides vitals is completely different than what you learn out in the medical field. I gave this school a second chance eager to learn and super excited to try to finish school so I can start my career but due to all the complications I have encountered I rather not pay all these students loans to be taught by someone who is younger than me and who has no licenses or certificate to teach me. They need to train their instructor to teach and demonstrate more, as well as monitor the classrooms they are giving out to students to see if what we are learning is being taught correctly. I hate that I was not able to continue my education, hopefully this review can help someone else not waste their time. Oh and another side note the instructor love to talk inappropriate about other students who don’t meet to their standard expectation. Teachers here are way too involved in students personal life and use it against them. This whole school just needs a lot of help, I hope future MA don’t attend here, better off attending somewhere else with better instructors, staff,...
Read moreBack in 2019 I had attended the Culinary Arts program that spanned from April to November and had thoroughly enjoyed most of my time there. In May of 2019 I became a federal work study working for Chef Mike Eyerly which would be what I consider a privileged experience, I had learned so much not just about culinary, but how to treat work life in general, and I still take lessons I learned from Chef Mike in use today. After Chef Mike had left, there was a period of confusion for us as federal work studies in the culinary field where we did not have a director, but that was remedied not too much longer later when Chef Tom Putler became the director and got to work closely with him. I believe I gained more experience personally working as a Federal Work Study for the school than as a student in the culinary program. Unfortunately, not everybody got that same experience, as there was only two spots to become a work study for the culinary field at a time, so myself and only one other person got to have that great experience. While I enjoyed the culinary program itself, it is my personal opinion, and also those of my classmates at the time, that the more advanced mods towards the end could have been done better. The argument was usually "we don't need demonstrations because we're so advanced into the mod", however I disagree with this as did others, because it is still important to be shown visually by a trained and experienced Chef on how to do certain techniques and dishes. There was some days that it just felt like we came in to class to make a recipe that we could have literally done at home with a youtube tutorial.
All in all, the instructors that were present at the time were fantastic people to talk with and learn from, even though I wasn't in the baking program, we still got frequent visits from Chef Maria and Chef Jennifer from across the hall when we needed it. Chef Mike, Chef Tom, Chef Chris, and Chef Andrea were all incredibly helpful and mostly willing to put time into making sure our questions were answered.
A final point I wanted to add, was how fun it was to volunteer for Culinary events both onsite and offsite. Getting to demo how to cook food on stage at an event in Turlock with Chef Chris and Chef Tom was a blast, or serving food to people on the street at the Day of the Dead Event in October in Modesto with Chef Andrea. We did tons of events, I can hardly name them all but it really helped further ignite my passion.
At the end of the day, I do not regret attending IOT. While it may need some improvements here and there, its important to understand that no place is perfect, and no one person is perfect either. This was my first experience with college and public school in general, so I faced a lot of issues that were caused by the negative attitudes of other people, and some I caused myself due to my own inexperience, but that's growth. As long as you keep a positive attitude towards everything you do, you will find success. Failure is nothing but experience, and you can use that experience to improve yourself in the future.
Thanks for all the great times IOT team, I...
Read moreAfter going over the reviews and speaking with People currently in the MA Program I am Highly Discouraged and would Think Twice before attending this so called School I've been told "teachers" aren't doing their job which is to teach and get you prepared for the work field your dealing with another person's health this is supposed to be Professionalism you get in debt to receive that treatment, you give and expect that back and students in the MA Program right now as we speak do as they please during class, being disruptive, teachers making the Senior students teach the new ones what to do when the teacher is suppose to do their Job, and those seniors just gossip during class I've heard this from 4 people currently attending this MA Program This Institute Needs to put Their Teachers on Check Before they are approached from a legal standpoint stop waisting people's time and money!!! Think Twice Before Going to This School I am, Professionalism and Discipline does not seem to be this schools model, I would think so specially anything that has to do with taking care of another human beings health, this is who will attend you out there in the real world eventually what is going on!!! Who's in Charge here is anyone doing their Job at this So Called Institute might as well call it Head start learning for childish individuals getting you ready for the real world check on Your MA's Classes!!! Where's the Professionalism here???--------------------------------------
Update on This Situation as it seems the teacher in the MA Program has gotten their attention taken, as soon as the teacher did their job for about 75%-80% of the class towards the end of class everything goes back to how things have been Chaotic and a Mess Similar with Other School Programs, from what I hear the Teacher in MA Class Threatened!!! students if they didn't like the way she was "Teaching" they can start looking for another class, how do you threaten people who get in debt to give you a Job that you're not even doing. Make sure you really think twice before getting in Debt with this place and get treated as they please to treat you and not with dignity and respect as you should be treated!!! Keep in mind School Directors know about this and do the bear minimum about these...
