Played this course on Monday, August 26, 2024, after a guy in the clubhouse told us the "afternoon was wide open." Right before we paid, I asked the guy in the pro shop if the course was wide open and he responded "pretty much." My brother and I teed off around 1:30 pm as a twosome and played the first three holes in less than 30 minutes, never having to wait on a shot. On the 4th hole, we encountered the last group of a tournament that we later learned were senior pga professionals. The tournament was roughly 10 groups of senior pga professionals and the last 3 groups were a twosome, followed by a twosome, and a threesome in front of us. It took over 4 hours to play the remaining 15 holes, waiting several minutes on every single shot, with temperatures in the upper 90s. If the guy in the pro shop had accurately told us that there was a tournament on the course, we would have never driven an hour and played that day. It seemed like he intentionally withheld that information from us just to get us to come and play in what turned out to be one of the most miserable experiences I've ever had in 37 years of playing golf. The course should have been honest about hosting a tournament, especially when it was so poorly run (twosomes and threesomes of senior pga professionals in carts should play a lot faster than 15-20 minutes/hole). On a sidenote, the course was in decent shape with the tee boxes and fairways a little chewed up, but the greens were...
Read moreThe course it beautiful. It is also very long. With all of the elevation changes it seems quite a bit longer. The course is well maintained. I was there right after a flood and outside of one hole you could barely notice anything happened. The fairways are smooth, the rough is full but not too bad to hit out of. Lots of sand everywhere. The toughest part is when your ball finds the prairie grass. If you can find it you are usually hitting from dirt between two clumps of grass, with no solid footing to be found. Just hit towards the fairway and be happy. Risk taking is rarely rewarded here. Play it safe, and your day will be 10 strokes better. Other notes: they valet your clubs when you get there, nice pro shop, free driving range, on course food is okay, they clean your clubs after the round, and you can pick your clubs up whenever your ready to leave, so you can gamble your night away with no worries.
Warning: I went to pick up my clubs and my driver was in the wrong bag. It may have fell out when they were moving them and they just picked it up and put it in the wrong bag but thank god I helped them load it, if not I would have just assumed everything was there and gone...
Read moreSo we made our first trip to Blue top Ridge Golf Course. What have gotten 5 stars except a couple of things. The fairways were in very good shape, but the greens were horrible. We were at a public course the week before and those greens were a lot better. The thing that upset us the most is that my wife and I were expecting valet parking and club cleaning as I see posted. There was a guy there to pick up our clubs, but had to park our own car and the guy was at least nice enough not to make us walk all the way to the club house. I can't say that for the finish thou. With a wife with MS the course was tough on her and when we dropped our clubs off she had to go the bathroom so we drove the cart to the club house, After using the facilities I asked the guy behind the counter do we leave the Keys in it and he was like ya. It was a long walk back to the car. Sorry to be negative, but was hoping for a...
