Recently moved to this neighborhood. I have found this Food Lion on Bennington to have the best prices out of the grocery stores in the area and that beats Krogers too. Most of the employees are very pleasant here with the exception of 1. I don't remember his name but he's got shorter hair and he's a little tall. i remember talking with him briefly a few times. I told him my wife had worked in Food Lion before, at this location and also at several other Roanoke locations. He asked her name I told him. He said he's worked at Food Lion for several years and never heard of her. He said he probably would have seen her over the years and he thought it was strange. I told him its impossible to know everyone but she did work there. He said ok and i left. On my last visit he said he asked around about her and nobody knew her. I asked him if it was really that important to him. He said he was just curious and that nobody had ever heard of her. I told him she had been in the management team and that sometimes you just don't meet everyone. It happens. He basically called me a liar and said if she worked here, she must have worked out of state because she didn't work in Roanoke, Virginia I said she still had her uniforms and I had seen her pay check stubs. He said those uniforms were probably bought online. How incredibly rude. I told him that. He said he was just kidding about saying that. Then I asked him if she didn't work at Food Lion, where did the pay check stubs come from? He said he couldnt explain that one. Then he shook my hand and said have a good day. He told me several times he was just kidding and apologised but i am still sort of offended by his comments. What does he mean saying my wifes uniforms were probably bought online? Thats just rude and acting so certain my wife never worked at Food Lion when she did is rude too. I have spoken with other employees at different Food Lions in Roanoke who remember my wife and remember her very well. Did this kid ever think the people he asked maybe hadn't met my wife either? Just rude! Otherwise this is an excellent store and I enjoy coming here. Other employees are very...
Read moreMy wife and I used to go to this Food Lion location all the time. We were even going here when the 7-Eleven was still there! Recently, however , this location has gone far down . It is almost at rock bottom , I think .
New management is not getting the job done.
I met their new manager here , his name is Mike Christian. Honestly , I had a hard time believing he was really the manager. Quite honestly. .Had I seen this Mike Christian guy in plain clothes in the store and he told me he was the manager , I would have second guessed him and questioned him.
For a manager I thought he was unprofessional. If he did not have the uniform he would not look the part of a manager, not one bit! I met this manager in front of the customer service desk , where I waited patiently , while he and another guy were just casually chatting away about a race and one of the race car drivers. It was very unprofessional to say the least , to leave me there waiting . Even if it was just a couple minutes . When I was finally acknowledged after they finished their quick little chat , this manager addressed me as " buddy " .
I personally am not going to come back here , I will make the short drive to Kroger where the management and good service remains consistent. I sometimes go to the Piggly Wiggly next- door too , where they always addressed my wife as "mam " and me as " sir "
It is sad that this Food Lion has...
Read moreIf you have health issues you need to know this store will not accept Dr's notes and employees are made to come in sick or risk termination. They store perishable items returned under the counter for hours before they are put back on shelf. They knowingly hire offenders who are not legally allowed to work with minors. When a cashier alerted them to the liability of hiring offender and how the public and other employees were uncomfortable around offender/employees and the offenders record was uncovered. The reporting cashier became an immediate target from management. This included Mike Christian following him to the bathroom listening and commenting on how he really had to go and then exited the br leaving employee humiliated. Mike is also racist and calls young black employees "his boy" a few weeks weeks ago a lady had a return and he didn't believe her and said "She's just trying to jew us" how is he still there? Dee Ann Perez asked a new hire to join her and her husband for some things a manager should never request. Dee Ann was reported but no action was taken. Chris Glass the main guy is cronies with Rob Ward so nothing gets done. This store has the highest loss and is a laughing stock. Corrupt and needs...
