O'Keefe's and Martin Discount store — Local services in Rochester

I want to begin with stating I am generally opposed to leaving negative feedback for any business especially a local business I’ve been going to since they opened however my interaction today with their staff today changed that all and confirmed I will never shop or recommend this store to anyone ever again. I purchased 4 kids fishing poles on Thursday. We took our kids fishing. My wife and I set up all the poles (1 was broken in the package we just didn’t realize it until we opened it). She and I then assisted our 3 youngest kids in using their poles to assure they were using them properly. Within 2-3 casts each pole was completely unusable. We put them in the car and had the kids just use the other poles we purchased and intended to bring them back to the store today to return them. A female at the register called a male employee John over and his immediate reaction was rude. He stated he wasn’t taking them back and would give a credit for one. I tried to explain what had happened to which he took on an even ruder tone and began to question my integrity.

This isn’t how you do business. Especially with regular customers with a legitimate issue.

Sad they are closing been stocking up on all my normal buys and some extra things as well. I used them to remodel my first home with their paint supplies and tools you name it most likely they have it all over the years nothing very friendly people that have been working there for years. Boy, I will miss the store and the staffing. Thank you all for the kindness and fantastic prices over the years. I will miss this store a lot and I am far from alone with my thoughts. THANKS ALL !!!!.... They are now selling bedding like mattresses and bed frames & such but they are still selling all the tools tarps and batteries and camping 🏕 gear all the things I been buying going on 20 years they are still keeping those types of things in stock at a fantastic price this keeps me from going to a box store. 5 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 all year round. Love this store!! The staff is always extremely helpful and friendly. They always have exactly what im looking for and even items I didn't know i needed! The prices are fantastic and the store is wonderfully organized. Again, the staff are absolutely lovely!! I visit here fairly often, and recently noticed an item for sale intended to house pet fish that was woefully too small. We had advised the gentleman tending the register to do some research on betta fish as there is lots of misinformation out there , and that the "cube" being offered was unfit to properly keep fish.
