Mai's Oriental Market — Local services in Rockport

I was looking through the reviews and noticed that someone had the same thing happen to them that happened to me, so I thought to post my experience as well. We visit Rockport pretty frequently, and stopped by this market to check it out. Decent selection of items you wouldn't find easily at HEB or Walmart, we purchased a few items and were on our way. Months later, I just happened to review my pending bank transactions and noted a small purchase from this store, maybe $50.00 or less. I was able to report the fraud to the bank, and they could see I had been no where in Rockport around the time of the transaction and stopped it and blocked any further transactions from this location. They even checked further back on my statements to make sure that they had not been charging small amounts here and there, which thankfully had not happened. I had noticed when I was checking out of the store that the cashier, who I presumed to be the owner, wrote down something on the receipt that she kept. In good faith, I thought maybe she needed the information to process the charge and make sure that it went through. Anyways the bank was able to issue a new card with a new security number, however beware. If this information is taken down, especially that security number, and you don't have alerts for every single card transaction, or review your transactions regularly, then small sums of money can be taken overtime without your knowledge of it even happening. I went to Mai’s Oriental market yesterday. I handed over my credit card to Mai so she could check me out. I noticed Mai’s eyes scanning my credit card as she flipped it back & forth a couple of times while simultaneously writing something down on a small piece of paper. I got suspicious and when I asked her what she wrote, her reply was, “not for you to know.” Before she could shove the small paper further underneath the register, I leaned over to see the 3 numbers she wrote down were my CVV. I demanded she hand over the paper with my credit card information. Mai panicked & quickly started to scribble over the numbers but still refused to hand it over. Not a friendly place to shop. Do not greet or make you feel welcome.The shop has decent selection of items and would be a nice place to shop if the lady behind counter was a little pleasant. No one was wearing a mask. No sanitizer available. Baskets were dirty and had old debris and no cleaning of them being done between customers. Ordered me to return used basket to pile near produce counter. Didn't ask. Got told. Not a good experience. Gave 2 stars as they had a decent...
