Overall this is a clean, seemingly caring facility. My family went there about a month ago to adopt a cat, but ended up adopting a dog (we were open to either). I have a 5 and 3 year old and we have moved for work 4 times in the past 3 years, since this is a more permanent move, we decided to get an animal. At the time of adoption, the staff was friendly. We ended up adopting a dog with heartworms, but according to the staff the procedure was covered under Rockwall PAWS; and that's all they told us. Upon adopting the dog, we had to follow up several times to get the Rockwall PAWS info. We learned it can take 4 procedures to work and the animal cannot be active during the procedure, endure any stress, etc. Not the end of the world, but would have been nice to learn this before adopting him. After about a month with the dog, we decided to return him because he never warmed up to me. I'm guessing the male owner before me abused him. Ultimately, between the heartworms and his timidness I decided to call up there to talk with someone about returning him. The lady who answered the phone was nice and said it happens all the time. I inquired about transferring the adoption fee to a cat later down the road, because my children were heart broken about bringing the dog back. She said it's up to the manager, they were not in today; however she sees it all the time. My wife took him back without any problem. Today she decided to call up there and check on him because she has been feeling very guilty about returning him. Billy (sp) answered the phone and simply acted disgusted my wife would have returned him. I'm sure it isn't common to call and see on an animal's well-being. My wife then asked her about transferring the fee we paid ($125) to adopting a cat ($50). Billy proceeded to get 'righteous' with her and tell her maybe pet ownership is not for us. My wife was already heartbroken about returning the dog and does not need someone to talk condescending to her about pet ownership. Just because the dog did not work out is not our problem; nor does it mean we need to be talked to like children. The staff needs an attitude change, we will be adopting a pet from elsewhere. A big reason of using an animal adoption center was to show our children the process, etc. ...
Read moreHorrible animal shelter DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS HERE. I tried to bring my dog here last year because I physically could not take care of him anymore and I was in a domestic violence situation and had to get out as soon as possible. The workers told me they would take my dog at the time I didn’t know I had to be the one to bring him. Due to me being at work I had my friend who is like a dad to me bring him because at the time he had him. When my dad got there he tried to give them the dog and they told him because he’s the owner of the dog he had ti take him. My dad told them he is not the owner they then proceeded to say that he is the owner “Lamar __” he looks like him. Dogs that have chips implanted in them don’t give you pictures of the owner. Just the name and their contact information. So the fact that they lied and told this man that he looks like the owner of my dog on the chip so he had to keep him was just crazy and shows the integrity of this shelter. and it lets me know even if they could see a picture they think all black people look alike because my dad is in fact not LAMAR who is the owner of the dog and who I got the dog from. ( my dad lives in seagoville it clearly states that the owner Lamar & Jamilla lives in Houston Texas) And then on top of that after I called and tried to explain that they were profiling the wrong guy, they told me because I said that the dude was my friend and not my dad that they couldn’t take the dog. (What does the extent of my relationship with a guy who has nothing to do with this have to do with my dog?) THIS IS A HORRIBLE ANIMAL SHELTER THAT DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR ANIMALS OR PEOPLE. They also told me because they had no room they would take the dog but ultimately put him down without trying to find him a new home first. If you love your pets but simply cannot take care of them, Take your dogs anywhere but here I’m begging you. If I could give 0 stars I would. And at the time I had just moved to rockwall so I was still a rockwall resident and showed the proof to the...
Read moreMy first visit and three times after, in my experience from working at an animal hospital and adoption hospital for 16 years, the staff here seem as if they don’t care much about the purpose of their duties. They’re fake with their somewhat joyful nature, and the blond chic at the front is the queen of a fake people. Don’t be misled by her not noticeable friendliness. It’s extremely obvious something about her job is pissing her off. I adopted a beautiful girl who just needed a few moments of patience and kindness. She was filthy and matted and scared. She definitely would not the blond touch her. This girl of mine is the precious sweetest girl ever and I am grateful she came into my life but hate the fact she was at a place she couldn’t not trus. The staff made her seem as if she was a mean untouchable dog and stated they’re going to put her down the first time she bite somebody. I not yet witnessed her snapping at anyone including myself, my husband or my daughter and anyone else who comes to my house. It is so wild the statements I received from the staff on the personality of my girl, it was as if they were talking about a completely different dog. Ive worked at an animal hospital for so long and anyone who’s worked at the animal hospital knows when pets who are scared, it’s gonna take a lot of patience to get them to trust you and you can’t be the type of person who has no patience. The way the staff handles the pets is not anything I’ve ever seen ever the whole 16 years I’ve been around orphans it’s unbelievable how the staff handles and reacts to scared pets, they definitely need to be...
