Used to be so enamored of this place: great pies, wonderful service, room to sit and enjoy purchases, coffee, pleasant conversations.
Lately though, it really isn't conducive to senior visits (absolutely no room to sit! - near-dangerous crowding), overly busy even at opening hours, and, sadly, at times far less than a quality product. The latter was seen two weekends ago: a $26 strawberry rhubarb pie taken home was largely inedible (truly rubbery) and was tossed. This is NOT the place it was in the nineties. My thinking is that they have perhaps become too generalized (?!) - artist's enclave, restaurant, gift shop, confections, etc., and that they've forgotten something along the way.
That, as they say, is progress.
The staff remains exceptional: Maddie and Jesse et al are hard-working, attentive, and gracious. Y'all are appreciated.
I'll add that trying to contact them by email directly to offer constructive criticism rebounds from the overseeing company, which seems like avoidance of responsibility. It would be helpful to be able to contact the "pie place" directly online!
A generous three stars out of five, when they were ALWAYS 5+ in the nineties.
Update: back in the late spring, mom and I revisited, and Jesse the manager was very gracious and apologetic about our latest experiences, and offered like a great gentleman to give us a free pie on our next visit. Bravo, Hill...

I typically love going to total wine because of the number of options you can find, but let me tell you... stop at that place and get the super pleasant surprise of finding a ton of options for beer and wine. Saw a bunch of people stopping by to just get their pie, so I had to try it out. It was one of the best pies that I had in my life for sure. Mix that with a super friendly and helpful staff. Will be adding that stop when heading to my family's...
Read moreThis is a great place for a sandwich and drink. It is unfortunate that the older woman who manages the cafe often replies to customers with a rude retort. When asked to make a decaf coffee, she rolled her eyes and said, "Ugh. It is too early for this." It was after 8am. When my family and I ordered sandwiches and ice cream at 6:30pm, she rudely replied, "We're closed." When I politely pointed out that the sign lists 7 as closing time, she said, "We walk out the door at 7." What a terrible way to...
