My family and I stayed at The Star with Frio Country Resorts. This is our second time renting a house with this company so we thought it would be great to do so again since we were familiar with the company. We were disappointed with the quality of the house this year. As soon as we got there we noticed the floors were very dirty and had strands of hair everywhere. We then proceeded to use the house’s broom to clean the floors and the broom itself was also disgusting with hairballs attached to it. The furniture was also disappointing as the couch was peeling and leaving little black specks all over us and our blankets. The pool chairs were also broken which was really dangerous for our kids who almost sat in one that was broken. This is hazardous because they could’ve fallen through the hole or cut themselves with the plastic. We were also really excited to use their outdoor activities during this trip but the volleyball net was broken and there was no ball for the tether ball. The pictures online of the house were beautiful and we were really excited to stay here. This company has to stay on top of the maintenance of this house and cleanliness. We were not notified that our reservation was cancelled until a few weeks before scheduled reunion and 90th birthday which was occurring on a very busy holiday weekend. Frio River Resorts was aware of the cancellation since 8 months prior but somehow this slipped through the cracks and they failed to let us know. Deposit made in August 2024 but refund not credited back until June of 2025. Things happen and it was human error but… a phone call at the time of cancellation would have been appropriate and given us time to make other arrangements. Realizing the error when it was called to their attention, River Resorts finally notified me with a short e-mail only weeks from our event and showed very little willingness to make this right, return e-mails or to assist in any way - although they did admit it was their responsibility to notify us when the reservation was “cancelled” nearly 10 months before.
