Customer service in the billing department can be very cold and not understanding. If you use auto pay and you are not on "paperless billing" and you change credit cards or something. Don't make the mistake like I did and assume it's getting paid. All my other vendors & merchants, notified me by text if my credit card didn't update their auto pay system. I did not have "paperless billing" with none of them yet I was notified the very next month if my new card did not go through Republic Services systems does not work this way if you don't sign on to paperless billing! I shared this with Elizabeth and customer service after receiving a bill that was 10 months past due with a lot of late fees tagged on. In all fairness... I should've opened each paper bill every month however, when month after month you were after year, it is always being paid you sometimes take it for granted that it is just that... Getting paid! I just so happen to open the paper bill this month and found a $400 plus bill... I was quite surprised! A phone call or an SMS text or anything would have been nice from someone who has been a long time and on time paying customer in the past. Since I did not hear from them in 10 months, I assumed they were getting paid. I have excellent credit and would have paid a double bill the following month, if I knew there was a problem. Customer service was just very cold and matter-of-fact like! Nevertheless, I pay the entire bill off, including late fees in one lump sum. In all fairness... They did take the late fee off on the final billing I could've paid some of the bill lol and continue to make small additional monthly payments to pay it off, but that's not who I am. I just never seen the companies billing service operate this way... Ever! Most companies value you as a long-term client and give you the dignity and respect you deserve, especially when you show a long history of on-time payments and never missing one! It would have been nice if they've reached out to me at the very least, after one or two building cycles have went by, and they have not received payment, realizing that something was out of the ordinary, with their loyal paying customer! Then, when Elizabeth was done with me, she says, hold on to answer the survey after the call and I was immediately cut off. We notified the company we were closing our account (by the date we were told we needed to by without incurring a cancellation fee). Their Account Rep Tamara Hernandez offered to lower our pickup schedule to 1x a month for the remainder of our term which only had a few months left in it. This was much appreciated, we thought it was a nice gesture.
We signed the form for the reduced number of pickups and sent in the cancellation letter by mail as Republic notified we would need to do.
After Tamara had us sign the new reduced pickup frequency - and they had received our cancellation letter - we were called immediately and told that the reduced frequency pickup form was ACTUALLY a new 1-yr contract and we couldn't cancel now!!!!!!!
We were infuriated that they would trick us in the manner they did, called about 6x until they agreed to pickup the can in July as our original contract stated.
According to our original contract, if we cancelled by the date specified on that original contract, there would be not penalty or can pickup charge.
This morning I received an email that an invoice was due for $114 to pick up the can!! We called Republic AGAIN and the rep said she didn't have authority to cancel that bill and she would talk to a manager, then get back to us. Just a few hours later they charged the card they had on file for us that $114.

Attempts to resolve the issue were extremely frustrating, as reaching customer service consistently involved long hold times — often exceeding 20 to 30 minutes. When I did get through, I was met with vague assurances but no real solutions.
What’s most concerning is that I was required to sign a 3-year contract, and despite their inability to fulfill the service as agreed (providing the correct container), they have refused to release me from the agreement. This lack of flexibility and unwillingness to take responsibility for their own service failures is unacceptable.
