I walked the Wicked and Twisted trail. Wicked is fantasy themed, witches, krampus, the mad hatter, it's a dark take on all kinds of fantasy archetypes and I really like the creativity involved.
Twisted involves a prison, an insane asylum, a school bus, more of what you expect at a haunted house, but it's great, loved the amount of details from room to room. I wanted to hang around and look at everything at each stop. Both these trails involve a very consistent rhythm of jump scares, mainly people yelling stuff while close to you, a few were actually more subtle and fun and I really liked that, but way too many people just yelling something while close to you, I love the passion of the actors of course and this is just a minor criticism, I think compared to just haunted house attractions, they are not excessive with it at all and it's a part of the environments in ways that are fun.
What truly makes Witches Of New Salem great is that it is not like 1 haunted house, it's like dozens of haunted houses, it felt to my gf and I like an hour of walking through all the fantastic little set pieces, I didn't time it though so that may be an exaggeration. The different stops along the path always keep you guessing which way the horror sets are going to go. It's an underappreciated wonder of back woods horror that I recommend to anyone anytime the subject of Haunted Houses...
Read moreThis used to be my favorite haunt. A large group of us have been going for years. Last year we arrived early and still had to wait three hours, which was a long time but great for anticipation building. But the build up was for nothing. 2015 was by far the worst year we have ever went. First off It used to be exciting once you paid for your ticket, you would go to an indoor wait room where they played metal music with scenes from horror movies. ALL of that was off! No music, no movies, lights on. Secondly, the hay ride to the start of the corn maze: First year a guy jumped out of the corn with a chainsaw scared the crap out of me and I jumped out of my skin. This past year nothing happened on the hayride. The corn maze was good still. We got to the next part the woods (Which by the way we find out the night of, that they now split this in to two parts that ARE shorter, though they claim they are not and now charge for each section!) So unfortunately we only got to do half the woods and it was terrible. We were rushed through by uninterested actors, and literally were done and out in 10 minutes with a feeling of "That's it?" We had brought 4 new people that year and they thought we were nuts for saying this was the best in Michigan. and sadly after all that, they were right. It was terrible and not nearly as good as it once was, and...
Read moreThree stars because I had fun but as someone that has gone to a lot of haunted houses, it's not worth the price and it's so unorganized and unprofessional.
-There is hardly anyone to help you understand where your supposed to go, there's a few lines with no signs saying what's what, so it was very confusing unless you could find someone to help. -It's cash only, but you wouldn't know that unless someone told you because again, no signs. Once you know it's cash only you have to find the ATM (it's in the barn) -There were hardly any actors in the maze we went in, and in that maze the actors we did see were in normal clothes and a mask. At one point I got ripped away from my friends and was unable to get past the man holding me back. -it was SO muddy, and there was a point where you go up some metal stairs and then across and back down, i was TERRIFIED i was going to fall because they were so steep and slippery (thankfully I didnt) but a girl behind me did fall going down the stairs but my friend was able to catch her by falling on to him.
Anyways if I had to compare it to the other haunted attractions I've been to, it'd be 1 star, but I went with some great people and had fun with them, so 3 stars. Also the food looked questionable but it was cheap so I...
