I traveled from Florida to meet my long distance boyfriend and we stayed in SLC in an Airbnb and he took me on this hike. Now Iโve been on mountains before in upstate New York but only drove up them, never hiked!
So this was very exhilarating for me, easy hike, a bit steep at points, but I had so much fun running up and down. Once I reached the top of the mountain I stood as closest to the ledge as I could. To explain into words how I felt is surreal, the wind blowing wrapping around me like a hug, feeling so at peace, like I could do anything at the top of this mountain. I felt completely free of that makes sense. It was if I was levitating, it brought me to such a wistful place in my mind, that I felt with my entire being. These donโt compare to NY mountains. The trails were nicely maintained and clean. There was a few close calls when running back down but it was euphoric and so worth it haha. I felt like a kid again, my soul was healing just experiencing all these new things with him. So many first times on this trip, and that makes my heart so happy.
I really enjoyed it, and Iโll be back in November. If you ever visit SLC and youโre not used to hiking do Ensign Peak first. Itโs definitely for beginners but I surprised myself at how adventurous I was, it was super easy and chill. Lots of families too, definitely worth checking out!
Thank you Utah! See ya again soon! Such friendly and...

Ensign Peak is one of Salt Lake Cityโs true gemsโa short and rewarding hike with breathtaking panoramic views of the city, the Great Salt Lake, and the surrounding Wasatch Mountains. The trail is less than a mile each way, making it perfect for beginners, families, and visitors short on time. Itโs a steady uphill climb, but completely manageable, especially if you pace yourself.
At the summit, youโll find a historic monument commemorating the spot where early LDS leaders, including Brigham Young, surveyed the Salt Lake Valley back in 1847. Thereโs a sense of reverence and perspective up thereโboth literal and symbolic. The views at sunset are especially stunning, with the city lights beginning to twinkle below and the lake glowing in the distance.
Trailhead amenities are solid, with informative plaques and a small park area that ties in the siteโs historical significance. The path is mostly exposed, so sunscreen and water are mustsโespecially during the warmer months.
Whether youโre a local or a tourist, Ensign Peak offers a memorable, meaningful experience with minimal effort. A peaceful climb, rich history, and unmatched views all in one....
