Nothing but praises for Phoenix Tactical and Maani (Instructor).
Whether you are a first time shooter or have been shooting for years, the classes have something for everyone. I will try to include as much detail as choosing a course provider can be difficult with all of the choices available. I will put a leader on my paragraphs so you can skip to what you may be looking for.
I personally booked a private group Handguns I course as our group had people of varying skill levels from first time touching a pistol, to 40 years of shooting on standard ranges (bullseye targets, no holster).
For Beginners: Safety! Safety! Safety! did I mention that Maani is Safety conscious. Trust me when you are online with a bunch of new shooters (and trust me even experienced shooters) this is a must. Maani handles everything is a professional but not demeaning manner, so no one ever feels too embarrassed after one of those inevitable faux pas to continue. (nothing like getting yelled at by range master or a DI). Second, when teaching techniques/safety/anything. Dry fire review is performed until EVERYONE is comfortable so the group can move forward safely. (Let's face it, you may think that you are ready to go on and that person is holding up the group, but let's be honest we all could probably use a few more dry fire drills. Third, Maani is an extremely competent INSTRUCTOR, he is a patient observer and teacher. He doesn't just wow with stories of his prowess, he demonstrates and explains, listens and observes. Even our never touched a gun class member went from scattergun like targets to consistent, focused, center mass hits, not just acceptable torso strikes, if on a scored bullseye target what would be 9 and 10 rings hits. Watching him diagnose even the most perplexing of random strikes from one shooter bringing them to tight groupings was incredible. This is in one morning session. Example of skills our first time shooter and the rest of us accomplished competently by end of class. -SAFE GUN HANDLING -Grip/Stance/Sights/Trigger -Post engagement after-actions -Marksmanship -Holster presentations & holstering - presenting your weapon safely -Controlled pairs using trigger reset -Cadence Drills -Multiple targets -Emergency Reloads -Malfunction drills
Did I mention this class was extremely fun!
Experienced Shooter: Why should I take a class, I am a proficient shooter (I have been shooting for 40+ years, a US Army combat infantry veteran)? Most of us (in LA) get to shoot on ranges where there is no holster, or rapid fire permitted. We may get to practice draw and fire at home (dry fire), but there is then no follow up shot, controlled pairs etc. So if we do practice and have no formal training, where is the information coming from, YouTube? there is also no feedback on technique errors, it would be akin to trying to teach yourself yoga from a video tape. Second, we all develop bad habits over time, and are often quite unaware that we are even doing it. Never hurts to hit the basics, in fact I often find that my shooting as a whole benefits whenever I revisit the basics, not to mention the things I have never trained in. If you can put ego aside you will be surprised at what you will pick up from these classes.
I was so impressed with the class I am signing up for additional classes as I write this review. If I have more to add after those classes I will update this review.
Summary: You won't be disappointed signing up for classes with Phoenix...
Read moreIf you are looking for a CCW class (or just shooting instruction of all kinds), look no further! Phoenix Tactical Solutions has it all. SAFETY. Price. Quality. Content. Support. Fun! Maani runs the course and he is absolutely awesome! He has loads of experience and shares it throughout the class. I LOVE his stories! He tells them at the right time, they don't run too long, and they DIRECTLY apply to what we are learning. Maani makes sure you are trained! No skimping. He uses every hour of the class time. But, he makes it interesting and fun! I was not excited about the idea of spending all day Saturday AND all day Sunday in class. But, with Maani's instruction style, the weekend just flew by! It was really fun and we all learned a lot. I was totally surprised how much I enjoyed. it. As for price? It was very affordable. Not cheap but let me say there are quite a few other CCW courses that cost a lot more (trust me, I checked.) Maani's class was very affordable and was a tremendous value for what you got. Money very well spent. Maani tells jokes throughout the training to make sure you laugh some while getting trained for CCW. Maani is also HUGE on SAFETY. You will always feel safe in class and not have to worry about a less experienced shooter putting you in physical danger. Maani deploys an extremely effective teaching technique to ensure safety. Maani also let's the class take numerous breaks but keeps the class together so nobody misses anything. I cannot stress enough how good Phoenix Tactical Solutions is and how enjoyable it was to dedicate an entire weekend to the class. Bottom line, and nothing against anyone else, but if you need a CCW class, save yourself time and energy and just go right to the best ... Phoenix Tactical Solutions...
Read moreIt's been two years, renewal time and I'm on my third session with Maani. Shortly after the episode below, I took the Handgun 1 class which vastly improved my technical shooting, especially drawing from a holster. Yesterday I was back in class for my renewal qualification and was surprised again at how Maani has updated his curriculum for both the requirements for the class and law changes. The highlight of his teaching remains the same, though: patience, common sense and experiential wisdom concerning all the responsibility accepted for personal and public safety when one carries a gun. It doesn't hurt that he has a wealth of funny-serious anecdotes that demonstrate the points he makes. I should also note that most of my large classmates returned from initial training with Maani and have also continued with advanced classes. I'll be back, too.
(2023) It's not as if Phoenix Tactical really needs any additional 5-star reviews. I believe anyone who trains with them is spreading the word about their low-key, low-pressure approach to running a CCW qualification class. Maani spent the day teaching everything required to produce a responsible, knowledgeable shooter. He spent time physically adjusting my shooting technique (and others needing guidance), resulting in instantly visible results. MOST IMPORTANTLY, to anyone with little tactical experience, he inspired me to seek further training; he won't tell/sell anyone to return for another class, you'll just KNOW you should, if planning to make use of a newly minted permit. A great experience with a great teacher, 8 hours flies by and the cost is...
