So I went on another helicopter ride with Leading Edge Helicopters and it was awesomeābut a little wild this time.
Right off the bat walking under spinning propellers always makes me a little nervous and then you have to cringe smile for photo š š¬Just a heads up: donāt be on your phone walking up to the helicopter. Theyāll let you know real quick itās not safe, and Iām pretty sure their insurance hates it too. š
Once youāre in, you connect seatbelts, grab your headset so you can talk with everyone, and the pilot makes you feel super safe. Even though the helicopter is small, it feels solid because they know exactly what theyāre doing.
Now the funny part⦠there was lightning in the area, and when I asked if we could still fly, they said the storm was just passing. We take off, get a few cool views, and then BAM lightning ā”ļø in the distance. Next thing you know, weāre turning back and they shut the whole thing down. Flight felt a bit short compared to my last one with my son which was epic when we saw a car chase from the sky š„.
Still a really cool experience. I attached a bunch of photos and some videos from up there so you can see what the ride looks like. They also take pictures for you, which is nice if youāre doing this as a first-time...

They all have the same shtick down; "Um, you don't want that $20 tour, that basically hovers over the parking lot." Of course that's a complete lie because it's supposed to be at least 3 miles long. Also, the photographer is very pushy and conniving, I'll explain... Only three of us wanted to fly, because of 3 lbs over, my 10 year old was gonna have to sit it out, so mom was forced to ride with him, even though she was scared to death. The photographer took all of our pictures together in front of the chopper but when it came time to pay/buy the pictures, she wanted to charge us for TWO packages since we paid for two flights. Even though she took pictures of us as a group of 4. The audacity. I left disgusted and didn't buy a thing. I was upset I had already spent my good money on a higher tier flight that I was manipulated into. I felt...

New Braunfels welcomes one million visitors a year and many of these visitors and our own residents own drones which are legally allowed to go UP TO 400', in some cases higher (like when flying next to the water tower). Y'all do the math, but it's only a matter of time before an accident occurs and someone dies.
Fun fact: The flight path you will go on if you pay these people is quite consist and "runs under and at the edge" of the controlled airspace of the NB Airport. They could be doing this to save time and presumably fuel. This is obviously very dangerous and as my flight instructor used to say, "don't fly near an airport unless you are going to land there" (or you can't help it).
Think twice! Maybe go do...
