I have been a loyal customer here for years. I love their chocolate. I went on Saturday to buy candy for my grandchildren for Easter. It has just come to our attention that my one granddaughter has a severe peanut allergy. I informed the very helpful employee of my needs. I bought $60.00 worth of candy and I ask on each piece regarding the peanut concern. I went home wrapped the Easter baskets for Easter morning. As the children opened the basket it was immediately noticed that each piece had a peanut warning. I had to take all of their candy from their baskets! I visited the Chocolate Cottage on Monday and expressed my concerns to the owner. I DID NOT WANT MY MONEY BACK, I just wanted to explain MY CONCERNS! The owner was belligerent, defensive and ill-tempered! She stated that all the candy has the generic warning and that if I was that concerned maybe I should not shop there anymore! Yes, I can read and should have but I trusted the kind employee that re-assured me of the peanut affected candy. Yes, you do make "damn good candy" (your words) and you have expressed your lack of compassion for an allergy that cause anaphylaxis and even DEATH! Beware of shopping here if you have any concerns-the owner is ready to fight! Pat yourself on the back-you handled this...
Read moreChocolate Cottage has been in business for a surprising 28 years. This locally operated store has become a community tradition for all occasions. I know the family that owes this wonderful chocolate store, they work hard & long holiday hours to offer very high quality products & cut no corners when it comes to ingredients. The prices here are very reasonable when comparing prices at other high quality chocolate stores in town plus there are so many unique items here that you can't find anywhere else. Due to the fact that they make almost every item in the store fresh in the back rooms, which total approx 800 square feet, customers can expect ultimate freshness in the products they buy but also due to the limited manufacturing area the business is required by the state to put a disclaimer on their products to inform consumers there is a possibility of cross contamination in order to keep everyone that may have an extreme allergy safe if there is any question before consuming. They are highly experienced candy makers & know the ins & outs of the business, 28 years in business proves this & their regular customers have learned time & time again that this kind of passion & commitment brings much enjoyment to every occasion/holiday, past,...
Read moreIf I review the chocolate it's 4 stars. The 1 star is for the white hair lady's customer service skills. I asked to borrow one of her pens to sign a birthday card for my father-in-law, when I traded the Bic pen for a click pen which I thought would write nicer she straight lunged at me, grabbed the pen out from my hand and tossed the Bic pen towards my direction and said, "Not that one, those are expensive." Mind you, it was one of those advertisement pens with a company name, address, and phone number on it, and i was just going to BORROW it to sign a birthday card in the car and bring it right back. Instead with her watching my every move, i signed the card handed the pen to my husband so he could sign and stuck the pen back in pen cup. With being upset for being treated so rude the card didn't turn out how I had hoped. With her rudeness and her treating me like I was 6 years old I'll never spend another penny in that place. They lost a high paying customer. I'll take my money elsewhere. I did not deserve to be...
