I was able to find a Groupon that heavily discounted the price. My friends and I (total 4) booked a 7pm HouDunIt, an escape room themed to a Clue-style of who killed Harry Houdini. We were going to run a bit late, so I called and they were very nice in letting us be a bit late since we were the last group of the day. Getting there was tough, as it feels like it's in the middle of nowhere; it's in an industrial area where the entrance is hidden from sight. Once we got there, we were surprised to see it was also a magic shop. One of the things we enjoyed were the quick tricks the owners would do to entertain guests before and after the escape rooms. Most of them were card tricks. Another great thing was they have a cute small dog that is extremely friendly. The owner brought us to the escape room upstairs and explained some of the basics. Unfortunately our group was unsuccessful in completing the puzzle in time, so my friends will try again another time. I give the escape room 3 stars based on other escape rooms I've done. There were many fragile components which made me worry about what we could and couldn't touch. Some of the puzzles didn't work correctly and we had to have the assistance of the game master to fix it. In addition, it required lots of trivia that couldn't be figured out in the room. A few red herrings also made things tricky. But the game master was very friendly with clues and would come into the room to assist us. Overall, the room required more knowledge of tricky puzzles than a typical escape room. But the staff is very...
Read moreI went out to California to visit family and we decided to check out My Greatest Escape. I've done a few escape rooms before but this one was definitely a memorable one. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by the nicest people. They explained how the money from the escape room goes towards scholarships for kids to participate in their art school. Did I mention they also have a magic shop? This place was awesome & definitely had a nice family feel to it. Once we were inside the escape room, we followed along with the storyline to recover Houdini's plans. I've got to say that out of all the escape rooms this one was my favorite! It had a great feel to it and everything went along so well with the storyline. It actually made me want to learn more about the great Harry Houdini's life. I don't want to give away any spoilers but I HIGHLY recommend checking out this place. We managed to escape with the help of Jim & his crew and can't wait to go back once we go out to California and...
Read moreThis place is one of a kind. Located in a magic shop, the escape rooms exist to raise money for their nonprofit that benefits the arts.
If you are after a plethora of puzzles, this place is a must! By far the most puzzles in any one room I've ever encountered. You can feel the passion of the game masters and their dedication is palpable!
I really appreciate that this place does not have a corporate feel at all--it has a different feel from escape rooms that are chains. It's always preferable when I know the people running the game have actually created the puzzles themselves--it just naturally makes for a different play experience. These guys are anything but apathetic!
Upon finishing the room (we didn't escape, haha) we even got to witness one of the store owners demonstrating a magic trick to kids in the shop. It was great!
Had a super fun time and can't wait to come back and try...
