The best of Dekalb’s 6 pools.
My homeschool crew and I have been exploring the county’s aquatics facilities and this is the 5th of the 6 listed on their website. It has ample shade/cover for guests- in addition to the normal picnic bench umbrellas 10 picnic tables, 6 with umbrellas the others quaintly situated under the shade Working (clean-not grimy) splash pad Attentive life guard and polite staff Surrounding facilities are impeccably maintained
I would say the place was full judging by the parking lot but it didn’t feel crowded in or by the pool.
The swimmers/families were more diverse (age race and economic status) here which I appreciate too 😇

Lifeguard had to dive in to rescue a child who was swimming with her mom because the mom was underwater & oblivious to fact that her daughter couldn't touch the bottom. Girl was more scared than anything (not actually drowning), but lifeguard had to jump in to get mom's attention. A few adults (including myself) were trying to swim laps. At other DeKalb pools, the parents & lifeguards usually tell kids to give the lap swimmers space. But not at Medlock! I don't blame the overworked lifeguards, since they were too busy trying to make sure little kids weren't drowning. I do, however, blame the oblivious parents. I won't be back. Read moreI tried to go when i was 13 and theu wouldnt let me in but the year before i was 12 i went by myself everyday. We spoke to the manager and i brought my auntie to try and speak it out my auntie tried to ask for a wavier and to sign if i do get hurt and leave her phone number to call and i was also with ky 15 year old cousin they said the water aquatics guys changed the rules but when we looked on the sign they said 12 and younger need parents. You dont open a pool with old signs. Thats lame i my parents and auntie all work everyday in the summer so that means the whole summer imma be at home fix...
