This place was taken over by new owners. They've upset a lot of their old customer base, so they were getting poor reviews on Facebook. Their solution to that "problem" has been to remove the Facebook reviews. I'll repost my review here instead:
Everything to be said at this point has pretty much been covered by others, but I'll toss in my 2 cents. I haven't lived in MI for years, but when I come back to Sebewaing I enjoy eating the old foods I grew up with. Nostalgia is probably one of the biggest factors bringing people to the Dairy Barn every year, and the owners and their supporters have taken a pretty clear stance that they don't care about people's old opinions, but then seem to think everyone is required to still keep eating there. If I don't like it, I'm not eating it. If the business fails that's not the customer's fault, it's the business owner that refuses to listen to anyone.
There's a BBQ place right next door. Sebewaing isn't big enough for 2 BBQ joints, and I'm not going to Dairy Barn for smoked meats. Taking off all fried side dishes like mozzarella sticks, mushrooms, pickles, jalapeno poppers, etc lost me right away. The seasoning on the fries is bad and awkwardly bland, and the chips have even less taste than the fries. Those are now the only 2 side options, so while I was happy they still had the pizza burger, not having anything to eat with it stopped me from eating at the Dairy Barn much this year. I just accepted that if the place is even open next year, it's no longer a business I'll eat dinner at.
The ice cream change was a bit better. I was disappointed to hear they switched from Ashby's to Mooville, but the Mooville chocoholic is basically the same as the Ashby Michigan Pothole, and some of the other flavors are pretty good. No longer do they give you the giant cones like they did in the past, but at least it was good enough that I went back frequently over my 2 weeks in town for ice cream.
So for me, I will still go to the Dairy Barn for ice cream, but unless something massively changes with the menu I've eaten food there for the last time. R.I.P....
Read moreI’ve been coming here for about 35 years , along with my entire family and it has always been our favorite.
This year each of us have went all in separate occasions and the menu and quality have drastically declined. There is very little on the menu now and it is terrible. The food is not seasoned evenly and maybe overly seasoned with what tastes like a cheap seasoning salt. The “chili” is sweet tasting and terrible. The ice cream tastes like an oily whipped topping. The menu looks like somebody printed it off from home and it’s a piece of paper decaying on the counter.
They try to make what they think is a fancy “mustard bbq sauce” and it’s terrible, nobody wants that.
They no longer offer chicken strips .. just chicken nuggets that taste like they are from jacks meat market (which are very cheap)..
Basically they are getting the lowest costing, lowest quality food and selling it like nobody will notice or care.
Dairy barn has always been a town favorite and now it’s an embarrassment..please sell it again .
Lol also I just have to throw in that the sign claims the next ice cream stop is 100 miles away which is totally stupid / not cute or funny...
Read moreMy parents, brother and I "dined" here and will never go back. We sat outside on a picnic table, the server was nice although should be more knowledgeable of the menu. My Dad ordered the broasted chicken and was told "there is no broasted chicken because the fryer was not working." He then ordered a swiss and mushroom burger and it came to the table with no mushrooms and a paper thin burger. My Mom's burger had cheese, she said no cheese, and a paper thin burger. My burger had no tomato and onion, it should have. All burgers were warm at best. My brother ordered a pizza burger and when he lifted the bun, there was a patty of some kind and a little bit of marinara sauce. There was no cheese pepperoni or mushrooms that was supposed to be on it. We laughed thinking "what the heck is this." A pure waste of $40. Also, the menu is a fraction of what you see online, totally misleading. Do...
