This is a great place to stop: the people are all seriously kind, willing to help you with anything. And for a county store, they have a ton. If you’re a nearby tourist, you can get souvenirs, tools or household items, or OTC medicines in case you’re in need, a butcher with great steaks and such to grill, fantastic baked goods, produce, and that’s besides all the other trapping of a county store. They stay open late, in summers they have a ice cream window.
Locals enjoy the same things, with my personal favorite reasons to go there being, added to the stuff up there, the winter scallops, or crab, or what have you, in addition to the beef, pork, and chicken in their butcher case... it can save 25 minutes off a drive to get the goods for dinner and the owners have a good eye and know their stuff. They also keep open all winter and stay open late, a thing that any year-long Mainer appreciates, especially with the addition of a gas station outside. But if I’m honest, for me and my family, it’s the baked goods, like their seriously good, deep chocolate brownies that crackle with (well I don’t kno! I will have to reread the label! 😀), their hot lunch or dinners when I can get my hands on some — always good home cooking in a warmer, our favorite being a Chicken Alfredo type pasta. My husband wishes he had some nightly, and me, his wife and person who often makes his food and who is a ex-restaurant critic and chef, has yet to make a competitive casserole there! And then there are the people, who are always kind, take time to talk a bit before we go on our way, and often seen laughing while working. Really, I like the feel...
