This is a spot of terrific historical importance for the area of Sioux City. My only complaint is that it is not at all well maintained. The road going up to the monument is not paved and it very rough in spots. Which is sad, since to my understanding it is a burial site. It is almost as if it has become a forgotten area by whomever manages it, whether that is the city or state or other.

Beautiful view of the river valley below. Shorter dirt trails off the main road. There is also a monument when you first enter the park, marking where earlier Indigenous people traveled through the hills.

I went there in June 2018 and it was very informational and it has a great view to it of the Missouri River and you can see 3 states.

Amazing place, lots of great memories, amazing thick Forrest to enjoy Mother Nature. To all the people complaining “ the roads not paved” honestly paving the road would ruin the place in my opinion. I for one go there to get away and a paved road would make it feel like just another place and take away from that romote , bonded with nature feeling. The drive is easy short and very accessible anytime. The gravel does just fine and everyone I know prefers it that way, and there is only about a mile or less of roads anyway. They added a new trail that goes into some of the Forrest and it’s...

Mostest beautiful place in Sioux City for me you're very near the tri-state you can look over into Nebraska South Dakota and you're standing in Iowa up on the beautiful bluff and you can see you and see long long ways it's also where the Missouri has the big shoe River run into her the mouth of the Big Sioux. When I was in grade school on a tour bus in Sioux City I was told where you go with The peacemaker not far East Riverside Park where the council oak tree maybe? Be careful but I'd say my wife said it's...

Many years ago, they had to move the monument. It's weight caused the side of the hill to sheer off, leaving the monument dangerously close to the edge. The neighborhood kids had a wonderful week jumping off the cliff and sliding down 150 feet of freshly exposed soft loess dirt. This park is the centerpiece of many of my happiest childhood memories and I hope that many more children take away wonderful memories from this...
