Im not one to leave bad reviews. However, there are a couple of points regarding Red Buffalo Ranch which the public should be aware of. Our ride was scheduled for 4 PM and they requested that we arrive 30 minutes early at 3:30 PM. We arrived before 3:40 PM and waited until 4:30 PM to get on a horse. Standing outside in the heat together with my two children for 50 minutes was certainly not exciting. I don’t understand why we need to arrive early if the organization themselves cannot run on time. More importantly, we were assigned a guide who both of my children complained about and said that the guide was consistently making them scared that the horses would hurt each other. This is all that the guy spoke about for about 75% of the ride to my children who are ages 10 and eight. The organization can do more to pair up their horses appropriately so that the guide does not need to continue to scare the children that the horses may kick or bite each other. If these horses may harm one another, then maybe they should not be out on the trail altogether. Lastly, our guide was certainly not equipped to deal with children. They were not friendly at all and both of my children voiced their displeasure regarding our experience. I’m sure that the staff is wonderful and this is a beautiful organization but just double check that they’re running on schedule and ask them to assign a guide which is friendly for your group. As a side note, they have a strict galloping riding policy so if you’re looking for that kind of experience, this isn’t the place. They do mostly walking for the horses. Lastly, if we’re looking at animal safety, our guide continue to mention over and over that this is their last ride of the day and that they have been working since 9 AM. I don’t see why that’s any of my business and I’m sure that the organization can be doing more to be giving their animals appropriate rest in between rides. All in all, we did not have a great experience whatsoever, and we would not return...
Read moreI have been riding for 25 years and have horses of my own, so I am always wary of trail barns. Oftentimes the horses aren't trained properly, or there's one bad seed in the bunch and every horse reacts to that. Many times the place isn't clean and the staff is horse people who don't know how to deal with normal people. As such I have never known where to send friends who just want to get out for a bit. Now I'll be sending them up to Red Buffalo Ranch.
Everyone there was so nice, and it was the cleanest trail barn I've ever been to. The horses are all very calm, fat, and comfortable. Each employee gets to pick their favorite horse to use, so each horse gets special one on one attention, they're not merely work animals. The lead horse (ridden by the guide) was still learning to be a solid trail horse, but all of the other horses remained perfectly calm while he had his occasional fits (in his defense, I wouldn't want to cross the boggy ice spots either haha). We passed hunters, deer, and huge flocks of birds, and could hear gun shots and fire engines and none of the horses even batted an eye.
True, they aren't always manning the phones, but it's a horse farm, there is a lot of outside work to do. I had to call them half dozen times for issues that came up on my end, and I'd say they answered half the time. But all my voicemails were responded to quickly and courteously. Everyone I talked to was very helpful and...
Read moreMy boyfriend thought it would be fun to go horseback riding. He choose Red Buffalo Ranch because of good feedback he received from a friend of his that had gone here. I have not had good experiences with horseback riding in the past, therefore I was very scared and nervous at the same time. My boyfriend was not aware of my fear of horses. I did not want to take away from his excitement of planning this. So I went. The staff was very nice. Horses were well cared for. Our guide was Crystal...the owner. She sensed I was afraid. She went out of her way to make it a most pleasurable experience. She continued to check on me along with my boyfriend to make sure I was ok. She never made me feel that I was a problem...instead she put the extra time and care into making sure this would be the best horseback riding experience for me. And it was! Crystal was so knowledgeable and experienced and my fear was left behind on that beautiful trail. We rode Poe and Triton...perfect for both my boyfriend and I. My boyfriend Wayne being more experience got to ride Triton and I had Poe...they matched us up perfectly. So I give 5 stars to this wonderful, beautiful ranch and its staff for giving us a great experience. Special shout out to Crystal...we loved you! You are so good at what you...
