Local Spokes — Local services in Slater

My husband and I rented bikes from Local Spokes yesterday and we had a blast! We had first looked online and weren’t sure what bikes would be the best fit for us so we called and checked out the bikes the day before with quick test rides to see which ones we would be most comfortable with. We test rode with Matt and when we got there for our rentals, Ben helped us get rolling. We had a long trip planned for us and aren’t familiar with e-bikes so we did not know how much battery we’d be using or how much assist we’d want, as neither of us are terribly familiar with cycling. They offered to swap us batteries half way through the day so we didn’t have to worry about it!

We grabbed a sweet fanny pack (because why not?) and headed out. We left Slater and headed for Ankeny. Rode around town due to a High Trestle trail detour, grabbed some food and headed back to Slater. Met up for a better swap (though I think we would have been just fine, even if we didn’t!) and hopped back on the trail to get to Woodward and back. Stumbled across the Labor Day celebration in Madrid along the way. Their bikes were outfitted with headlights and taillights to ride safely in the dark.

More than 52 miles later, the bike ride was definitely the highlight of our weekend getaway. Will definitely rent again...

We recently rented twelve e-bikes from Local Spokes as part of our Celebration of Life weekend for my husband, and thanks to the friendly and helpful folks at Local Spokes, our bike ride not only was a highlight of the weekend, it was a wonderful way to honor my late husband. Emily, Ben and the Local Spokes team made the process of scheduling and renting for our group of 12 simple, and were kind and responsive when the number in our group changed. Most of the people in our group had never rode an e-bike, but Local Spokes made sure that everyone was comfortable and confident on their e-bike before heading out for the nearby High Trestle Trail and HTT Bridge! We rented an e-bike from Local Spokes for my mom on Mother’s Day. It was a great day to ride, and as it’s Iowa, it is always windy on the trails. As the rest of us on non-e-bikes were suffering, my mom casually strolled past us saying “I kind of like this e-bike” 😮‍💨

It was a great customer experience working with the staff at Local Spokes. They took the time to teach my mother how to use the e-bike, helped get it fit to her and make sure it was running well.
