Food Lion — Local services in Smithfield

Employees are great! A serious issue though with produce, a lot of it smells like some kind of bleach, glade plug in or fabric softener, particularly the leafy greens. We opt to buy those in another city, but I recently brought home grapes and while washing them I noticed that familiar fragrance. Our family is fragrance free so it’s noticeable to me, food shouldn’t smell like synthetic fragrances. Its sometimes an issue at other local spots too, I wonder if it’s being stored in a warehouse or on delivery trucks that use air fresheners, or if it’s stored beside detergents, or if the leaves are rinsed in a repurposed washing machine prior to delivery. Sometimes other items in the store also smell this way but thankfully it does permeate the package. Unfortunately produce is left open to air and it takes on those chemicals. I wonder if others have noticed it too.

Favorite Foodlion to shop at! There's a young man with Autism who helps customers load their cars with their groceries. His name is Benjamin, goes by Benji, he is so kind and helpful. He asked if he could push my cart to my car, promised he'd load everything quickly and he wouldn't break or squish anything or hit my car with the cart. He got so excited when I told him he could help. And he asked if I said "yes" bc of his persuasion skills. He loved my car and said it was different and said that was cool bc not every car needs to be the same. When he was done he skipped away with my cart! Best experience yet at Food Lion. And props to Food Lion leadership for giving Benji a chance to work and make other people's day. He told me he likes to help others bc it makes him feel good...

They race profile in this store. Anytime black or brown people go to the self checkout they run over and watch them like hawks! It's so obvious because upon completing the transaction they walk off. The bad thing is l got profiled in that way twice by a short white girl and the funny shaped black guy with the bad feet. Question? Do yall not think that white people steal? You would be surprised. Stop the profiling! If you're going to watch, make sure you equally watch everyone and not single out a certain group of people. That's called discrimination. Be careful. Lawsuit...
