Everyone in NC HAS to go to Celtic Creamery. We've not tried the other 3 locales but ventured into this one after a day at the Ava Gardiner Museum in Smithfield. The staff was fun, friendly, efficient, & helpful. The space is clean & doesn't smell like sour dairy that one finds at other ice cream shops. We met the proprietor as he returned from a festival with the Celtic Creamery truck. He was very knowledgeable about the business & my sister & I had a great confab with him. We have to tell his wife he is right about the Sea & Bee..,! LOL Such great flavors, humorous names for them & most importantly, I'm lactose intolerant & always cough & clear my throat for hours after eating dairy & that didn't happen to either of us. We kept saying how unbelievable that was, as it always happens. It may have something to do with their not using any ADDED sugars to the ice cream, only that which comes in the ingredients themselves. What an experience. Going back for my birthday this weekend! Thanks to everyone there! Blessings.
Only drawback was the very limited parking, so that's why I didn't give 5 stars. Maybe Smithfield can locate a bigger space closer to downtown where there is...
Read moreWhat a wonderful little ice cream shop hiding in the trees. This is a small establishment and the parking is a little sparse, to match, so you might need to scope it out for a good time to stop. It is well worth the effort. The in-house made ice cream has a very smooth and creamy texture with a nice thick consistency. I notice any ice crystals in the mix and the chocolate and nut additions to the cream were plentiful and substantial. I really like the Irish Butter Pecan having such large pieces of pecan, even complete halves, not the standard of chopped nuts. The base had a nice butter flavor but also a little more, so I am sure there is a little something extra in there. The Celtic Coffee is also fabulous with a decent robust coffee flavor and nice large chocolate pieces. The waffle bowl, made on site, was thick enough to serve its purpose while still being breakable for eating. Its flavor was quite good. They have some other cookie, donut, and pastry options which I didn't try because I'm always after the ice cream and I had to save room for dinner. Staff were also friendly and quick to serve as well as help each other. Nice to see a smoothly...
Read moreWe ended up here in a fluke. Happen to be at the BBQ place at the JoCo airport and decided to head here for a little ice cream after.
The place is a small stand alone shop work just a few tables inside. (Adding some tables outside would be awesome) the selections are limited but all home made and you can taste it. They have unique Sundays and little mini oil fried doughnuts (fried in peanut oil for allergy aware) that are about the size of a tennis ball and they fill the store with a wonderful doughnut smell.
The staff of young ladies couldn't have been nicer and more helpful in trying to navigate their menus.
Did I mention the ice cream is home made? It is very creamy and rich with pints available for purchase to take home.
This is one of those local businesses that needs a lot of support to stay viable. I hope the locals of Smithfield, Selma and Clayton find and support them....
