There are some places that you go that you have a level of expectation. You go to a great restaurant, you EXPECT great food and to be treated well. Once in a while, you might make friends with the owners, and over time, you become accustomed to being treated like family and all of your needs met. Rarely do you find that on the first visit. It's like going on a first date and suddenly discovering that you've just met the love of your life. It doesn't happen often. I'll tell you something else that rarely happens.....when not only the owners and staff, but fellow patrons go out of their way to create a unique opportunity for you ALL to become instant old friends. I was fortunate enough to find one of those places this week, and suddenly I have a whole bunch of new friends. Imagine, you're sitting in your cabin and there's a knock on the door. A staff member asks if we would like to go for a boat ride on the lake. Well, yes, as a matter of fact we would. Then we get down to the dock, and not only do we get to go out on the lake, but in a fun fast boat, with a couple of folks who simply made the day spectacular, not to mention memorable. Imagine my surprise when he hands me the wheel, and says, go ahead and drive. We sped across the lake seeing islands and gorgeous Idaho countryside. I wondered if this happens all the time. Turns out that our host had a death in her family, AND YET, took the time to call and arrange our boat ride. Astonishing. There is something very special in the air in Henry Idaho....a "town" so small that you can't afford to watch the road or you'll miss it. But size, clearly isn't the issue here, it's the people in the community that make it special....and isn't that always the way? Several weeks ago while roaming hither and yon through the Idaho countryside, we stopped at this little place because the sign said "Cafe." Great, I'm hungry as usual so stoop we did. I ordered a salad and the fish. Now anywhere else in the known universe, you'd get a little side salad and some frozen fish and chips. What I got was a salad like my mother would have made for two. It was huge, and it was delicious. Then the fish came and I swear they must have run down to the lake and caught the fish...again, outrageous. After dinner I commented on the size and quality to our "server" who turned out to be the OWNER of the cafe, campground, bait shop and I'm not sure what all else at this truly wonderful stop. A conversation ensued and we talked about the history of both Henry and the Campground. Turns out, this has been a family endeavor for several generations. We were invited back for three days of fun in the sun and so, here we are. I can only tell you that if everyone gets treated as well as we have, it's no wonder the place is busy all the time. we met folks from Wyoming, Utah, Idaho and beyond....not to mention one wayward and generally lost New Yorker who had the time of his life. We stayed in a well prepared, well put together Mini Home. On the East coast we'd call them a "park model" home, in the South they are Tiny Homes. NO matter what you call it, the bed was comfortable and there was everything that was required to set up housekeeping and be comfortable. the shower was great...and plenty of hot water. There was even a supply of movies, a huge wall mounted SMART TV and a generous helping of bandwidth on our WIFI connection....and YES, we had 4g LTE Cell Service on my Verizon phone. We've been invited back sometime in September, and I have to say, I'll be there. This was a great three days of fun and memories, new friends and even a "cool one." What more can...
Read moreAVOID AT ALL COSTS!! We stayed here over the 4th of July and was extremely disgusted and fed up with the conditions. Apparently all service sites were booked but tons of space in the dry camp area. They recommended if we wanted peace and quite to stay in the "cedars" which was in a separate area away from the cramped service area. Looked great from a distance. However, after getting set up I realized everyone with an ATV used the "Cedars" as their play ground, which wasn't the peace and quite the touted. But right from the start things got bad as soon as I drove the RV over to get it set up. Unfortunately I took one step out of the truck directly into a huge deep gopher hole which couldn't be seen due to tall grass covering it. As a result of this mishap my toe broke. Needless to say it ruined any hiking I was wanting to do. The camp host, referred to as John Wayne, had followed me over to the area and was sitting in the golf cart, witnessed the entire thing but didn't offer help of any kind. After he left and I did the best I could to set up the RV, I had to call the office and ask for medical tape. The owner answered the phone and was stunned that I broke my toe but ensured she would send help out to me. The partner of John Wayne, referred to as "Marilyn Monroe" came over to check on me and did offer to take me to the ER, however, I already knew not much could be done for a broken toe but to tape toes together for stability. She brought medical tape over as well as munchies, frozen pizzas and frozen corn dogs because she knew I wouldn't be able to do much cooking that evening. The next day I introduced myself to the owner in the cafe, which had a very unclean area and kitchen, but I explained most of the Cedars dry camping area is hazardous due to the huge gopher holes. There were at least 15 in the dry camp area and 6 were on the site we ended up setting up. She immediately took offense and became defensive and said, "you signed my liability waiver" and stormed off. REALLY?!?! No concern or care at all, very flippant and rude! Does she really think her liability waiver would stop anyone from suing her if perhaps their small child got severely injured in one of those holes. Definitely not! To add to the disappointment of the situation, the water around the camp was actually a swamp with murky nasty water which was no fit to swim in as well as the waters around the marina. Also, the marina is in very bad condition and has been repaired haphazard! In hind sight I wish we had left instead of staying! The price of $25 per night for dry camping in a hazardous area and having to listen to the ATV's constantly roaring by...
Read moreCedar Bay Marina RV Park and Café is a wonderful place to spend time with your family and make memories around a campfire.
It is independently owned and operated by a husband and wife team. With a lot of help from friends and family. It is an older campground and we maintain most of the duties ourselves to keep rates affordable for families. All upgrades come over time.
The sites are 30 amp so some guests who are used to 50 amp have a hard time adjusting to the power. The best part however is how cool the weather is because of the location. It’s always a little breezy so you can sit in your lawn chair and enjoy the outdoors.
The café is small but very cute and quaint. It has a lot of family history. So with a lot of upgrades I’m afraid it would be to modern and look like every other café in the city. So I think we will leave it the way it is. However it is very clean and decorated darling with family history pictures on the wall.
We are only open 6 months out of the year and close down in October. So that being said, little money is to be made and a short time for expensive improvements. My husband and I both work full time in Utah in the off season.
We are certainly working tirelessly to improve as much as we can as fast as we can. It is a simple campground and not to compare is to a local KOA. We are not commercially owned.
To address the negative reviews, it makes me sad. Considering the discounted rates and putting up with the rules constantly being broken by unmentionable guests. Also having to ask for late payments to be made at a monthly rate over and over it does get exhausting. We are only human and don’t like to chase money that is owed. So we feel that that these review are not truthful and hurts us deeply.
We always treat our guests with all so respect and love them spending time at our little paradise. We are truly sorry for your negative experience and hope maybe sometime in the future we could make it up to you with free camping and meals that meet your satisfaction.
I want to thank everyone who has left us positive reviews it means the world to us and we are grateful for the business. We hope you continue to return to make wonderful family memories at Cedar Bay Marina.
All our love, Cedar...
