I have been a customer for over 30 years when they started in Dover. Have spent thousands of dollars on furniture over the years for various homes and also on wall paper and fabric when they carried such things. This time was a whole different story and not only will I never go back, I have told all I know this story that follows and they won't be shopping there ever also. In January my husband and I went and picked out about 2 thousand dollars worth of unfinished furniture. Although very polite, the woman waiting on us didn't seem to know what she was doing. We were first told we could buy off the floor. Then we were told that they would have order and it would be about 6 weeks. As we were signing the papers I noticed it said no returns after 60 days. I asked if this did not come in within 60 days did this still happen. She assured me it was just a formality and of course we could return it. A few days later she called saying it would not be in until April. Since the house would not be ready we said ok...but again asked about the return policy and she said not to worry about it, we could return if it took longer. April came and went and no furniture. We called to cancel and get our 1200 dollar deposit back and we suddenly were put on hold as the person who answered the phone "had to get the manager". Mark B. said he was the manager. We told him what had happened and all he kept saying was "that is not our policy" several times and very impatiently. When I asked him how I was supposed to know their return policy if their sales people are telling us something differently? He told me I was being disrespectful towards him.(?????). I asked to speak with the owner of the store. He said he would call him and then get back to us. It is very doubtful that he called his employer as he called back 2 minutes later. He repeated that he was going by their return policy and was not going to return my deposit. I realized this was a dead end so I asked for his name and told him he would be hearing from my attorney.
Obviously I got my deposit back as how can you return something that hasn't arrived yet? It's quite the scam. I'm reading similar situations in the reviews and I feel so badly that they didn't get their money back. So I'm writing this review. I've never written a negative review in my life but I felt I had to publish this one so no one else will get treated this way. This used to be a great store but I strongly advise you not to buy anything there let alone enter the store. I never will ever again. My advice to the owner of this store: Get rid of you manager who said his name was Mark. He was rude, confrontational and is losing...
Read moreLike others have noted, they have lost a customer and I will be spreading the word about their terrible customer service/store policy. I shopped there on Saturday, ended up buying decor from off the wall. Spoke with the sales clerk about the return policy in the event it didn't work out for the area I had in mind at home. She said, "no problem, as long as you return it in 7 days." Unfortunately the piece didn't work. I returned it to the store on Monday (closed on Sundays), basically their next business day, to learn they have a 15% restocking fee. No where did I see this, nor did the sales clerk say a word about it during the discussion when she was taking my money. She also cashed me out using another customers account information. When I told her that was not me, she crossed out the persons name and told me "don't worry, it's still a valid receipt." At the time of the return, I was informed the restocking fee is store policy (regardless of what a sales clerk says!). I can understand a restocking fee on a special order or if it was a piece of furniture they had to load/unload. But, not the case -- the space on the wall was left empty, screw still there, and I could have hung the piece myself exactly where I took it down from. Instead, I was charged the 15% fee as the sales clerk pointed to a big pile of colored sheets on the counter reiterating the store's return policy. So, beware no matter what a sales associate may say ... you need to review the store's handbook if you really want to know how they do business. I'll spend my money elsewhere - hopefully where customers are...
Read moreWe have had some great experiences buying our outdoor furniture from Holmwoods They have a great staff who have always been friendly and helpful but I’d like to get this out there and off my back Last week we bought two composite rocking chairs. The cost was just over $1100 for the pair It was Friday at 5:45 I brought them home and moved them onto my deck. The next morning I went out with my coffee and sat in one of the chairs. Well it just didn’t feel right and I immediately decided to return them and purchase 2 Adirondacks for the front porch instead So I had the chairs back at Holmwoods by 10::00am. We are talking 16 hours after initial purchase I Swapped the chairs onto my truck and went inside to settle up To my dismay they had charged me a $176 dollar restocking fee Even though it WAS clearly written in the fine print at the bottom of receipt I must admit I was shocked because I still was walking out of there with a thousand dollars worth of chairs. Oh and those two chairs make numbers 6 and 7 purchased there within the last 2 years. And we still have 4 more chairs to buy for the fire pit Unfortunately I won’t be buying them from Holmwoods after this
I wanted to update my review and I should have done this earlier The next day after I wrote my review the owner Andre I think was his name emailed me and after a couple missed calls we finally got to talk it out He was apologetic about the charge and said it should not have been applied in my case. He sent me a gift certificate for the charges so now I can happily shop at his store again Thank you for...
