Somerville Baptist Church — Local services in Somerville

I was reading past reviews and had to take exception to a negative comment made about the music and the pastor. My husband is a worship leader at another church. To the best of his ability, he tries to mix the type of music (both contemporary and traditional) and we also sing to "canned music." As such, he also meets with different opinions as to what he "should" be doing in order to make an atmosphere of worship. Did the individual who didn't like the music offer up any solutions to how the music could be "improved?" And as far as the pastor, did this individual privately speak to the pastor expressing their concerns? As church leaders, we strive to serve God to the best of our abilities, but we are only human. Any servant would welcome constructive criticism, but an attack on an entire church is unnecessary. On a personal note, I think very highly of Somerville Baptist Church and many of its members. My daughter attends the Good News Club that is offered after hours (and completely voluntary) at her school. All the GNC workers give of their time to bring the gospel to children who are hungry to hear it. My daughter has also attended a service with her best friend and could not stop talking about how much she enjoyed the pastor's message (yes, a 7 year old child actually LISTENED), the music and the kindness ("everyone was so nice to me Mommy") of so many. I LOVE my home church, which is NOT Somerville Baptist. Somerville Baptist Church!!! Ah, just saying it brings a smile to my face. It is the place where my family loves to be!!! It is a place where we can go and be accepted for who we are, Sinners Saved By Grace!! The Lord has blessed Somerville Baptist Church with such a wonderful Pastor whose vision is so greatly focused on reaching people outside the church doors and really teaching the ones inside the church doors. Pastor Shane's biblical messages have truly challenged me to be a better christian and have helped pave a good foundation for my children to grow on. There are so many ministries to be involved in for any season of life you are in. Even my children are able to serve in the church and by a part of reaching others for Christ. I am currently going through a discipleship program and am learning more 'in depth' knowledge to growing as a believer. God's spirit is truly present each time we walk in the doors. His infinite love shines through the people, staff and leaders at Somerville Baptist Church. I love being part of a church that loves ALL kinds of people and wants to reach ALL kinds of people and wants to serve ALL kinds of people and accepts ALL kinds of people!!!!! I have been a member of Somerville Baptist since i was 10 years old. I can tell you it's the place to be if you're broken, falling apart, and needing to feel loved. I have went through some terrible times and i have sat in the office of my Pastor crying with me because i made bad choices that affected me for the rest of my life and crying with me on behalf of my marriage. He came to sit and pray with me at the hospital as an 18 year old as i sat helpless while my baby lay in the NICU of Huntsville Hospital weighing 2 lbs, hooked up to machines and with a feeding tube down her throat. He truly cares about his church members. I could go on and on about how much we love our Pastor and why. Im blessed each week by my discipleship one on one, my Lifegroup class, the preschool which i worked in and my daughter and nephews went/go to, the biblical preaching, and the fellowship, etc. I love that God is the main focus of everything that goes on. I was baptized here, my daughter was saved and baptized here. This is an amazing place to be and feel like you're surrounded by true family. I look forward to each and every Sunday and Wednesday.
