True Spec Golf - Pine Needles — Local services in Southern Pines

Thanks so much for setting me up for a full club fitting with Ryne Cole down at the True Spec on Pine Needles property. I drove down from our office in Charleston early this morning and cannot tell you how blown away I was by the experience. When I arrived Ryne was already there and greeted me with a bottle of water and showed as much as interest in getting to know me as the person as he did in me the golfer and my golf swing. To my surprise, Ryne had already read up on the many things I am doing in the golf industry on behalf of golf courses. In preparation for our meeting he had even listened to some of my recent podcasts and read some of my current magazine columns.

From this point on I knew this was going to be a top notch experience. We started warming up with a ping blueprint iron head that was most similar to my ping iblades I previously used. We must have gone through an endless amount of shaft and head combinations before settling on the Miura CB 301 head. One thing I really appreciated about this club fitting compared to previous ones I have gone through is that Ryne didn't seem to be pushing any particular brand of club or shaft. Everything was centered on what would give me the best results, feel, and shot dispersion. This made the process very comfortable, especially as he explained why he was trying different weights of shafts and their profiles and what they could do for me personally.

This process continued throughout the bag (wedges and hybrids). Hybrid fitting was the most difficult because I have never been a huge fan of hybrids. But man! By the time Ryne dialed in the right shaft and head combo, I cannot wait to find a long par 3 or have an opportunity to reach a par-5 in two. He had this club humming. What really sold me is that after seeing me hit most of my clubs, by the time we got to the driver and 3-wood, I kid you not, the very first shaft and clubhead combos he handed me in each resulted in 4 dead straight flushed shots with each. It's obvious that Ryne and the True Spec team know what they are doing.

I got in the car and immediately begin texting and calling my colleagues and friends recommending that they come down to the lab. I'm hoping to get 3 of my co-workers down for a round of golf at Pine Needles and then take them over to the facility. I'm going to tell our CEO about my experience as well. I'm confident after they see the setup, meet Ryne, and get tired of me outdriving them, they will be blowing his phone up for the same secret sauce. Ryne Cole-- a true master club fitter. First I will say that Ryne Cole is a very knowledgeable fitter. Ryne was very personable and really focused on fitting me with products that will improve my experience on the golf course.

We began the process with the irons. I hit a few shots with my irons (miura cb1008 with clubs 8,9 and PW in the MC501 with C-Taper Lite shafts. Then Ryne began handing me various shaft and club head combinations. We ultimately came to a winner. The beauty of this facility is that I was able to walk out of the studio and test the new stick on real grass. This facility has a great practice range so you can get Trackman data as well as real world ball flight!

Next we moved on to the wedges. I currently game the Cleveland RTX 4 wedges with s400 shafts. Again Ryne began handing me combinations and I instantly found a winner. We went out doors and I felt I could hit various wedge shots again with very little effort.

Another cool thing about this place is that they have a short game area at their putting facility. I was able to hit bunker shots, shots around the green and also shots off of tight lies. The new wedge combination was unbelievable! I feel like I have a short game again!!!

Lastly we moved on to putting. Now I have a custom fitted putter by a competitor in which I’ve just been struggling with. Ryne put me on the Sam Lab and quickly identified my putting stroke. My putter doesn’t match my stroke..ha. So we proceeded to go outdoors on a true green and began putting with several combinations. All I will say is WOW. I am really excited about receiving my sticks ... I can’t wait!!!!

First time using True Spec and very pleased with the experience. First, Pine Needles and their personnel were very nice and accommodating. It is a beautiful facility. I was able to warm up on the driving range which was adjacent to the fitting studio. Balls were available for free on the range. Secondly, Keven was knowledgeable and easy to work with. It was nice that he was a division I college golfer. Showed and interpreted the numbers from the launch monitor for me. This was a driving fitting and I did it outside on the grass, hitting from a tee. Thus, sound of the hit was true and was able to see the ball flight in real time. Fit me with Callaway head (tried tailor-made, Titleist, Ping, and XXio heads with various shafts but Callaway was the runaway winner) and mitsubishi shaft that produced straight shots with excellent trajectory, spin rate
