Hickory Grove Haunted Trail — Local services in Spencer Mountain

I thought this place was pretty darn good, all things considered. Places like this are great because they grow and get better with time. We got there at about 8:30PM on the Wednesday the 30th and only waited in line about 30 minutes. I thought most of the sets were pretty good, and most of the actors and costumes were good. What's great is I live very close to this attraction so I'd love to see what changes from year-to-year.

Some things I'd love to see which I think will make this place a bigger hit is: less jump scares (and more overall spookiness/scariness) less chainsaws a situational theme (Where the customers interact and feel involved with whats going on as well as have to accomplish some overall goal as they move through the event. The layout would be perfect for a zombie apocalypse rescue mission of some sort where you have to clear various locations to find a missing person or something There's already a guide who goes through the trail with you so why not have them in character too?) Just a thought.

Overall I thought this was a great attraction and appropriately priced. I'll be sure to be back in...

You know, I focused too hard on the negative reviews but after tonight I can say hickory grove is the BEST haunt in Gaston county and surrounding areas. The actors did their job phenomenally with delivering scares, I actually felt scared going thru and I’m a tough nut to crack haha, Thanks hickory grove for the scares and new memories!!! I also want to mention that if you have issues with claustrophobia or anxiety be careful this place tests you with tight hallways with actors on either side, a bus, the famous bags that make it hard to walk thru. No cheap ghost projections and the chainsaws get CLOSE (looking at you scarowinds 😉) if I had to rate this place on everything this is my ranking Scenery: 10/10 Props: 9/10 Actors: 8/10 (the masks could be better but it’s a home haunt not Hollywood!) Visited Hickory Grove Haunted trail tonight October 1st 2022 @ 9:00pm. I cannot believe I wasted $75 for my group of 4. For starters, they made us go through with another group. Each group has an employee “guide” the entire trail. Our “guide” talked with the younger group we had to go with THE ENTIRE TIME. They were using profanities and joking THE ENTIRE TRAIL. The “guide” was too busy being their friend than telling them to get off of their phone and enjoy the trail. Also, to sum up this trail, it is literally filled with people spread throughout the woods in “old men masks” and chainsaws. Thats it. The place isnt one bit “scray”. This reminds me of a high school type trail that they would put on during Halloween. Not a place where tickets are $20 a pop. I would never return to this place again.
