Owner appears to be deceptive with his business practices, so buy at your own risk. I personally have bought a few items from Jim and his prices are a little higher than most ($50-200 more than others), but I was willing to pay more to help the smaller businesses out. Not any more.
I purchased supposedly factory ammunition from Jim at Hunter’s Hut a few months ago when ammo was hard to get. He had a generic white box of ammo labeled Federal 115gr 9mm. Went to use the ammo this weekend and realized that it was very poorly remanufactured ammunition and was down right dangerous. Whoever remanufactured this (I believe reloads from the owner), loaded them under powdered to probably save a buck so it would not even cycle a new Glock 19. Anyone who uses Glocks, knows they will usually cycle anything. After about two mags of bullets not cycling, one round actually had no powder in it and the primer just pushed the bullet into the barrel. That’s right, a bullet got stuck in my barrel!
Thank God we noticed something off and immediately took it apart to discover the lodged bullet. Someone just died at a local range for a gun exploding due to a lodged bullet.
In response to owner’s comment:
We reload ammo and this is what we can tell you…
This ammo is not hollow point and is not factory remanufactured. It is ball ammo (which it states on your box) but if you got this as factory remanufactured - you got ripped off and if you’re in this business - you should have noticed. This ammo has head stamps from a dozen different manufacturers (winchester, norma, anguilla, sig, blazer, etc.) We pulled them apart and heads are 115gr and 124gr and not just 115gr as purchased. The powder looks like green dot and not ball which a factory would never use. The brass is not polished with medium but is merely washed.
Again, the price point is irrelevant. I am the consumer that spent the money and it was not terrible at the time. Even if it was a little high - I like giving the business to local guys. I just wish i inspected these boxes before purchasing.
Bottom line is - either you bought this ammo from a factory and it clearly isn’t and somehow you didn’t notice (how could you not as an expert) OR it’s homemade and was passed off on people in a time when ammo was in...
Read moreWhat's scarier than having a gun? Not having one when you need it! That's the thought my wife had that led to us meeting Jim at his Spring Brook store. Let me say, Jim doesn't only sell guns. Jim listens, observes, teaches and offers his knowledge to ensure that you leave having made an educated, comfortable and safe choice. Jim had us each fire a few handguns so he could see and we could feel how we managed them. After firing, we again had discussions that zeroed in on our needs and comfort level. Jim was very patient, answering every question and helping us guide ourselves to our final choice. We are very happy with our purchase and my wife is now hooked on target range shooting! If you are an experienced gun owner or a new one, you will undoubtedly find satisfaction with Jim at the Hunter's Hut. Oh, and if nothing else, you should go just to see his amazing collection of safari mounts (museum quality taxidermy)....yes they...
