Very disappointed this year. Took our son Friday night for fireworks and rides. It was slow as everyone left when it rained. The rained stopped & they started the rides back up. We went to go on the dragon kids ride & the guy just stood there staring at us. We asked if it was open/running & again guy just stared at us. Asked if our son could get on, he replied no English. Went to the next kids ride. The seats were wet. We saw other employees wiping down seats & asked if he had a towel. This guy started with "no English". Once my husband took his shirt off to wipe the seat down the worker ran over to other guy and got a towel. Went to the next ride where the guy scanned our card but we only had enough for 1 rider and it was the end of the night. Our son couldn't ride without an adult we had 7 tickets left on one card, 7 on another card. We asked if he could refund our 25 tickets since we didn't have enough for a rider. It was 11pm so we weren't going to add more tickets he said no. He did eventually let us on but all the other employees started walking up to him trying to hit the stop button and yelling at him to stop the ride because they wanted to be done. All of them didn't speak English. It was the rudest experience I've ever had with staff there. One of the guys who said "no English" we heard later talking English with a co-worker. I feel they didn't want to deal with things and they used the excuse they couldn't speak English. I also feel they need to know how to communicate the basics especially employees running...
Read moreVery expensive. Fair itself doesn't change much from one year to the next, they bring in the same things. It would be great if it was new exciting things, instead of pig races and Show Me Safari every year. Some grandstand events change, but the basic core fair stuff seems to stay the same...a tent of tractors, show me safari, the same barns full of animals they don't want you to pet (which is fine, but where are all the kids who raised the animals? They should be trying to interact with those coming to see the animals). Horse barn is missed by many since there needs to be big signage directing you there. Sorely lacking. Most of the tents that should have little booths/people in them are empty year after year. Like, hmm, who was supposed to be here-eh who knows? Lets sit under their canopy. Midway (ride) prices just keep going up every year, and again, they don't change much. They don't open until 1. You stand in line at 1, since the ticket booth doesn't open until 1, stand there for a half an hour, then only get to ride until 5 or 6 pm until all the teens take over and you don't want your family anywhere near the midway. So really for 4 hours, money is better spent at an actual amusement park! 4H participation dwindles every year it seems. Where are the QUALITY fair entries you remember from back when? Instead of all these thrown together stuff that gets ribbons. Seems like fair has become just another carnival setup in a field with a few kids trying to show animals they raised. Let's get back to the fair...
Read moreThe oakland county 4H fair use to be run by playworld and it wasn't cheap to go but a family could make it work. Now with bog rock or whatever company runs the ride and food spots it is so ridiculously expensive that once you are there it's hard to tel your kid that $30 for a wrist band and $20 plus is too much for a sandwich and fries an a drink, so you spend it. But when I got home I said to my friends an family that asked me how it was. I will maybe take a few years off next year. That's a really sad thing. As the 4h fair is a yearly summer event to really kick off summer. But the animals and stuff that oakland county do was great but Big Rock I think is the company has finally wrecked the 4H fair...
