Grandma's Cupboard — Local services in Springfield Township

I’ve been to this store twice. Traveling from an hour away. I called ahead. The owner is extremely eccentric and odd and rushed me out both times. The first time, before covid, his worker needed to “take a break” and said I’d need to leave in 10 minutes. During business hours. Super weird. I purchased over $100 worth of supplies and wished I’d just put it back after the treatment I’d received. Fast forward over a year, I decided to go back as I needed some things that would take too long to order. Again, drove an hour. I called ahead and he informed me of the covid policy.. wear mask and 15 minute maximum so others waiting didn’t wait long. I think like 10 people allowed in the store at a time. I shopped, filling my cart and of course running out of room because I tend to buying everything (haha). After about 10 minutes he gave me a five minute warning. No one else was in the store. It was a ghost town. I assumed he was telling me just in case the store filled up super quick. So I continued to select items from the shelves and a few minutes later he informs me I’d need to wrap it up and pay. I replied that there was no one in the store and asked if I’d still need to leave, it was so absurd that the obvious statement perplexed me. He said yeah I have to keep the rules the same for everyone.... again. I wish I would have left everything and just left the store. Ummm no one was there. How would anyone know when I got there? LOL I mean it didn’t make any sense. The store is super small and quiet and you can hear everything people say, his employee and he did nothing but gossip about people and comment on how she should go tidy up after me. She literally followed me throughout the store making sure not a thing was out of place. The whole thing is just super bizarre and I can’t believe he’s still in business. I’ll never shop there again. Reading this it may sound like it wasn’t a big deal and trivial but I promise if you visit this store you’ll see what I mean. Give your money to people that treat their customers right and don’t shop here if you want to feel welcomed and appreciated for spending several hundred dollars. If you made it this far...

Update 4/10/14: This place is most likely closed. The owner was arrested on a few occasions since January and they haven't answered a phone call since.

Heres the thing...I'm a local at-home baker that depends on this little gem for packaging. They are the only store near me that sells the plastic cupcake carriers. And they are good quality. they also have a ton of other things that bakers need to do what we do. For that, I would give them 5 stars.

The reason for the three stars is this...they are unreliable. I can't tell you how many times I have gone during their business hours only to find them closed. In fact, two days before thanksgiving i called to make sure they had carriers that I need for a ton of orders and the guy said "well we have them but I was closing in ten minutes." After I confirmed his advertised business hours his response was "yeah, but I want to close early." Granted he did stay and wait for me to rush in my car and drive there to get the supplies I needed but to me, one small business to another, you have to be reliable. Ive had several instances just like this between now and then. Now today I am calling calling calling to confirm they are open and the phone just rings and rings. No one is answering....

Update (2/7/14) - The owner's of this shop are a husband and wife team. The husband was arrested for domestic violence back on the same day I posted my original review (maybe thats why no one was there) and is still in jail. I hope the wife is okay. I took cake decorating classes from Vada here back in the day. (About 10 years ago). I was surprised, but very happy to know this local bake shop still exists. They have literally all your baking needs. Cake pans, dyes, fondant, buttercream, icing tips & bags, chocolate molds. The list could go on! I am happy for them to know they haven't lost any profit due to corona. They do have a 15 minute shopping time limit and very short operating hours, but it was said this has been working out...
