My family recently considered getting a cat so we decided to look around the local area. The PetSmart here gets adoptable cats in from this APL place so we made the drive out a couple of weeks ago to check out all of the cats they had.
All of the cats there seemed to be in reasonably good health, the facility seemed mostly-clean (it does house sooo many animals so the free-roaming cat room was a little messy at the time but, hey, cats will be cats), and the staff was SO kind. The adoption rates seemed very reasonable to me. I saw some kittens were $100, the cats 1 year and older were $0 at this time, and we ended up only paying $50.
They did note major personality traits and if a cat with positive for things like FIV. The staff seemed to know some of the cats REALLY well and one lady was even able to recommend a couple of gentle cats for us since we have a child.
None the cats seemed fearful, injured, sick, panicked, or anything that would indicate they were being mistreated.
We spent maybe an hour or hour and a half there going through all of the kitties and then dwindling down the ones we were considering. We had gone looking for a cat between 1-2 years old but ended up choosing a kitten of all! That was okay though because even though she was too young to be spayed they still made her an appointment so that we could bring her back and have her spayed before she went into heat.
The girl we picked out had a little bit of a gunky eye and I expressed concern that maybe it would get worse. The lady reassured me that it was probably just, like, a kitten cold and that it was common (though, I saw no other kittens with gunky eyes or colds), but that she would check with the vet before we left. She came back out with some eyedrops so make sure the kitten was taken care of! I was SO impressed with the follow-through on that!
FYI: About 2 / 2.5 weeks later we brought her back and they did the spay as well as her shots, flea drops (just in case), and dewormer. She was in early in the morning and back out by evening. They did not "tip" her ear but did give her a little green tummy tattoo to indicate she's been spayed. I was happy about that!
All in all I would ABSOLUTELY recommend this place if you're looking to adopt a cat, at least. I can't speak for their canine adoptions but I would not expect it turn out badly. Definitely worth the drive if you're not in...
Read moreI adopted a kitty from petsmart alittle over a month ago from their adoption event. She has been a very good kitten, but I am very disappointed in the service that yall had provided. When I adopted her, I was assured she was in good health. I know you guys have a 1 week return if anything were to go wrong but it's also been stated that she could have diareaha for the first couple of weeks as she is getting use to her new environment. I took her to the vet and she came back positive for giradia. So after being promise good health, turns out I was given a sick kitty. She recently tested negative for giradia after I have to pay for her treatment, but she is still having bloody diareaha, which is now going to cost me more money to figure out what is wrong. I was also told that when adopting her I would receive emails from yall to make sure that marilyn is doing okay. I did receive one email, which I then returned a message asking questions and never heard a response back! If I got the response back I would of been able to take her to the vet sooner because I would of known her symptoms were abnormal. I just wanted to make a clear statement to your company and express how disappointed i am in the wellness of my kitten. All I wanted was a healthy kitten and now I'm trying my best to come up with the money to get the best care she needs. So far I've pouts 350 dollars to make sure she is getting better. I believe they knew she was sick. They gave her to me for half off for no reason. She had no records of her being tested for worms nor was she dewormed knowing she was a stray when they got her. Again I asked them multiple times if she was in perfect health and they promised me she was...never adopting from...
Read moreSo I meet this dog. I’d like to adopt him and he has a limp. The handler says he is on pain meds and that he has a dislocated knee cap and that he might need surgery. He said he has a dental on Monday and the vet will look at it then so I can do something called foster to adopt which he explained means that technically I adopt him but he stays in the APLs name until his vet visits are up so they can cover the cost of medical bills. They say his fee is $350. $350?? That’s the highest I’ve ever seen from a shelter even from shelters for specific breed dogs. It catches me off guard so I don’t adopt him that night. I then think about it and say that’s not fair to the dog that they’re being greedy. So I go back into the shelter and adopt him. I bring him back Monday for his dental and the vet to check out his leg. I come back in at four to pick him up and ask what they’ve found about his leg. The lady said she couldn’t tell me what the vet had found until I sign the paperwork finalizing the adoption. I’m thinking to myself how sketchy that sounds but figured I’ve already paid almost $400 I am already in deep. After I signed the paperwork she then informs me it’s not a dislocated knee cap it’s arhrtis. A life long disease. I asked since it’s arthritis Can I bring him back to your vet at your cost to get him on a plan or however you treat that? And she informed me that no I could not do that since I signed the paperwork. (Which she made me sign before she would tell me what happened) Anyway, I feel cheated and that I went through a sketchy process for this dog. I’ll do my best to get him through the arthritis but I don’t...
