I worked at this food depot for 1.5 years. During COVID and when mask mandates were lifted to vaccinated employees. People were very good about wearing their masks if they were not vaccinated. The staff was efficient, especially considering the hourly rate and the minimum breaks. Good place for your first job, and management is very flexible with scheduling. Meat it put out daily and is marked down if not sold that same day. Trucks are brought in 3 times a week and vendors come throughout the week. If a cashier doesn't know where something is, ask a manager or co- manager. They know where everything is. A lot of the time "stock boys" are baggers that help out so don't get too upset when they cannot help you find something. The 10% added at the register is added because the price that you see on the tag is what food depot bought it for. The 10% surcharge is the only thing the company makes off of that product, and that goes to pay workers, keep the lights on, and buy more product. Some companies like kroger, ingles, publix, etc.. Will have a 12% (not actual percentages) surcharge on some items and a 7% on others. So some items will be cheaper at other stores, and some will be more expensive, but this is because these other stores make their money by charging more for other products. They have an extensive wine section, but the produce is questionable. Overall food depot is a great store and I highly recommend it. The staff is like a family, and they work together daily to make sure things get done.
P. S. -Their hours are 7am-10pm -On holiday it is 7am-6pm -They are open 7 days a week -They have rug doctors, ATM, Coinstar, Red box, and propane. YES, they have apple pay, NO it does not ALWAYS work. -They are required to check ID for alcohol and tobacco, it doesn't matter if you look 95 years old. They have to see it, and they have to scan a manager card for it. -Meat dept usually leaves around 7pm They DO NOT do lottery -They DO NOT sell stamps -Yes they have western Union and money order CASH ONLY. Lastly, the manager usually works mornings. So if you need to inquire about a job, do it...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI like this grocery store. You just have to be shopping for exactly what you need and have your price threshold in mind. If so, well, you'll come out fine. I don't like their 10% add on at the register and I think that's ridiculous as only someone who can't do basic math will be fooled when comparing prices to Kroger or Publix. Their big cuts of meat are what me and my buddies go for. We leave the steaks and other badly cuts of meats to the regulars. If you're looking for a butt to smoke, picnic, or shoulder then they can't be beat. Their chicken thighs and other cuts can be a bargain as well, but when buying beef, you'd better plan on buying a whole brisket or a whole rib eye and cut your own cuts because individually they are priced to high for less than select grade meats. Overall, I like going there for the variety, including Hispanic, Asian and the previously mentioned reasons. Check it out if you...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is the best Food Depot ever - the store is always clean (recently upgraded) and most of the staff are friendly - I drive from the Stone Mountain/Lithonia area (16+ years). I stumbled across it because I take Hwy 155 to get to I-75 when going to FL. At first I only purchased meat due to the reasonable prices (money went a long way feeding a family of 6+ (and lots of guest) with beautiful cuts of beef and large family packs of chicken and other poplar meats. But I explored the store further and found some other brands that my family and I enjoy but can't find in my immediate area (Hillshire Farm smoke hot sausage and World Harbor Sweet Chili sauce to name a few). The fruits and veggies are always fresh too. They also carry a large variety of off brand spirits that are actually very good. This location is well worth the forty plus...
