👉🏼Tag someone you’re visiting Southwest Virginia with! [Save this reel to plan your trip!] SWVA is one of my favorite areas in the state, and it’s perfect for a weekend road trip! Based in Abingdon, VA, this was our itinerary: 📍Grayson Highlands State Park 🥾Wilburn Ridge, Twin Pinnacles, Mount Rogers (highest peak in the state)! 🚗Drive up Whitetop Mtn Rd for epic views from the second tallest peak in VA 📍Natural Tunnel State Park Features a massive, naturally formed railroad tunnel that is 850 feet long! 🥾Tunnel Trail or Lovers Leap 📍Devils Bathtub 🥾To a naturally occurring “bathtub” and waterfall with a swimming hole! Be prepared for lots of stream crossings 📍Hungry Mother State Park One of the 6 original VA state parks featuring a 108 acre lake with a sandy beach 🥾Mollys Knob 🍔Grab post-hike brews and food, or just explore, in the Appalachian town of Damascus! 🍺 Damascus Brewery In Abingdon, check out @wolfhillsbrewing and @wolfhillscoffee Still on the list: 🥾Stony Creek Falls 🥾Great Channels 🥾Breaks Interstate Park ⚠️Please remember to Leave No Trace by disposing of all waste properly, staying on established trails, and being respectful to those around you!

This an absolutely beautiful route to drive along. My wife and I accidentally came across this due to the GPS rerouting us due to traffic on main interstates. I’m happy it did! I’m not sure about the validity of the “history” associated with the location, but it’s beautiful nonetheless. The restaurant in the nearby sawmill is also worth a visit, delicious food.

Very cool overlook about 3000 feet elevation. Not much parking, so be ready when you come up on it. From the north, take first pullover to the left. From south, of course take first to right. Popular for bikers and they spread out and take huge amount soace. Cool spot to stop, get photos, stretch and breathe the fresh mountain air!
