There is no limit on the number of stars I would give Duma’s meats! We have been getting our meat from Dumas for 20+ years and the quality of their products has always been top notch. Today my review is based on more than the meat; I’m writing this review to commend them for the impeccable customer service and the LOVE they showed for my family today.
Today I inquired about the type of salt and other ingredients used in some of their products because my 2 young children and I have many severe allergies to ingredients commonly found in most foods (the anticaking agents in table salt, corn and its derivatives, and sugar to name a few). This means everything we consume must be made from scratch at home so we can control the ingredients and type of salt used, even to the point making our own sausage seasoning to add to ground pork for breakfast sausage (still a work in progress).
The person helping us with our order, Katie, new exactly who to ask and called over Brian who works with the seasonings. While discussing our family’s allergies and the type of salt and other ingredients in their sausage and bacon, the owner, Dave, and his wife joined the conversation. Everyone was so unbelievably kind, all offering suggestions and help! Brian, after looking at a list of our allergies, expressed his amazement in how we are managing it all. Katie then brought us a list of different products that would meet our needs given the dietary restrictions we have.
A little while later as I was shopping around the store, Brian approached me again. I could tell he had been pondering our earlier conversation. He asked, “If we are able to change the type of salt used to sea salt or one that does not contain the anticaking agent that causes the allergic reaction, which products would you like to see that change in?” I was blown away to say the least! He is offering to adjust their ingredients for US?!?!
This may not seem like a big deal to some as one could argue they are just swapping one salt for another, but for us it could be a GAME CHANGER! My kiddos could have bacon again!! Imagine a world without bacon… My kiddos could have sausage patties again (that we don’t have to mix with seasoning anymore)!! Imagine a world without really good sausage…
This amazing group of individuals and the LOVE and KINDNESS they expressed today have truly warmed my heart and made my day! Even if the swap is not successful for some reason, the fact that they care enough to offer and make an attempt means the world to me and my family! We have always been loyal Duma’s customers, but today has cemented that for life. Thank you, Dumas, from the bottom...
Read moreEXRTEMALLY RUDE AMD NO COMMUNICATION BETWEEN EMPLOYEES. Called last night because I got a email that my payment declined and it would not let me update the payment. They told me that if I couldn’t get the payment to update to call before 9:30am just like it said in the email to get the issue fixed on their side and that someone else just called with the same issue. I called today and they tell me that It is to late to update the payment even though the email and person yesterday said to call today before 9:30 to get it resolved. I let them know about the previous conversation and what the email says and they told me that “there is no other way to pay” and that “you should have done it yesterday” (when it was not working) “we can’t take and enter card info”, “you will have to place another order and I don’t know why they would tell you that.”(buying this for my fiancé for her birthday tomorrow) Right now if you don’t order within 10 min after 8am all the slots are taken so I can’t get it in time.they open at 9 so all the slots where already gone so can even order for tomorrow. After being put on hold 2 times and being told the same thing twice I was frustrated and said I have no problem with coming up their for them to get my card and wait in the f** parking lot until my pickup time I just really wana find a way to make this work so I can have a special dinner for my fiancé. The lady on the phone got mad and loudly says you can’t swear at me. I told her sorry not swearing at you swearing in general not directed at you I’m just frustrated because I have been trying for days to place a order and this (hangs up here) was my last chance. but before I could finish my sentence she hung up on me.. tried calling back...... got put on hold indefinitely. I have no interest in coming back here and will make sure to let everyone i can know about the way customers are being treated right now. Everything will probably go smoothly if their website works properly but if you have any issue trying to order or even if you have already placed it don’t get your hopes up duma meats was a good place before this pandemic but right now I wouldn’t waste your time with it. Good products and meats with normal pricing but trash customer service staffing sorry if it’s only family that they have to...
Read moreI had the bar set high based on the reviews, and honestly was underwhelmed. Pulling into the parking lot with no prior knowledge, this place immediately was not what I was expecting. Coming here was a waste of gas and time for me.
The selection seemed pretty limited. I get it's a local butcher, but the prices seemed high for stuff like the same brand of chicken I can get at other stores for cheaper. The cuts of fish were limited and the fillets were very thin for wild caught.
My experience with local butchers in the past has always been that's where you go for better quality for the same price compared to your chain grocery store. The quality of the cuts appeared to be equal, or just marginally better than places like Marc's, Kreiger's, Market District, or Whole Foods. I can tell this location is more about the experience as a touristy destination than just being a butcher.
The space is small and tightly packed. Tons of people -- almost too many people especially for midday on a Monday. I didn't really understand the hype. You literally couldn't stand in one spot to browse without being in someone's way, or them being in your way.
My biggest frustration is when I tried to go through the checkout they couldn't take my gift card because it was for the Duma Meats in Hartville. I'm not sure why it can't work between locations. I ended up declining the transaction. I'll be honest: I was in between a paycheck, money's been tight, and came out here to shop because I had a gift card and figured I could get it to stretch being a local butcher.
I left frazzled by the amount of people, embarrassed because my gift card wouldn't work, and underwhelmed by the selection and prices. I guess I'm just used to your traditional Amish or back country butcher. If you're coming here just for the meat and not for the touristy-like experience, there's better places to go...
