Wanted to check out the overlook on our way back from a camping trip but when we parked and started to walk up a ranger stopped us and said it was 10$ per person to enter the park. We explained that we only wanted to see the overlook for a couple minutes and that we didn't plan to explore the park. She said the overlook is part of the park and we'd have to pay to enter. It seems like a bit of a bureaucratic overreach to charge for access to the overlook. Needless to say, my family of 5 is not affluent enough to pay 50$ for a quick look at beautiful view. Even to hike around for a few hours, that's pretty steep. Prices just keep going up at places like this. When I was a kid my family never traveled or visited theme parks because we couldn't afford it. I learned a deep respect for the outdoors and environment because it was the only place we could go. Besides the incredible rock formations, you could see mountain range after mountain range! I was not expecting to see this, so close to Brian Head. I thought the nearest views like this were only visible at Bryce Canyon. Definitely worth the stop. It was right off the main road. Plenty of parking. There was a fee booth but no one was in it.
