Sunland Memorial Park, Mortuary & Cremation Center — Local services in Sun City

I would not recommend this place to anyone. It's a very long story, which started years ago with the unsuccessful transfer of my parents' funeral pre-paid arrangements in another state. At that time, (as we found out in June, 2021) Sunland did not complete the transfer properly. When we went to Sunland after my father died in June of this year to arrange the cremation, we told them my parents had pre-paid for my dad's cremation. They said they had none of the paperwork and the choice was to proceed with the cremation, and pay for it, or not proceed at all. My mother paid out of pocket for my father's cremation. At the time, we didn't not know what to do, and my mother emotionally needed to proceed. Long story short, three days later, we found the paperwork (my father's copy of the fax that had gone between funeral homes). Sunland had never completed the transfer, nor properly filed the prepaid cremation insurance policy in my father's file. So it's now the beginning of September and Sunland did not refund my mother's 2700 dollars (as we asked) nor has the insurance company sent my mother a check. Sunland knows the policy is good, because they checked on it and admitted such to me, after we found the fax. Too much was wrong with this whole thing to even go into it more here. If you go here, good luck. You'll need it. Bring your own water and/or coffee to drink because you won't get offered any and you'll be stuck there for at least two hours watching the awful video about services and things you can buy. I’m reviewing the Pet Cemetery… we have 4 plots there, 2 pups were already buried there and the funerals went fine, no complications or complaints. Until…. My most recent pup died. I had discussed what I wanted and was assured all would be taken care of… boy was it NOT fine. My husbands companion pup passed away and we called to have him picked up at the vet…. That took a few days. Then I asked that he be cleaned up a bit and to make sure he looked nice…. Again, that didn’t happen.. he had blood all over his face and it looked like he had just been taken from the cooler and thrown into the casket with no concern at all. Would you want to see your loved one, human or animal companion with blood all over their face? My guess is no. The day of the funeral it was 110+ degrees… people had flown in from other states to pay their respects to this pup, and while they had water, there was no shade, no canopy, nothing, just all of us sitting in the blazing sun. If there were another cemetery I could have used I’d move all my dogs… no family member deserves to have this kind of treatment from a cemetery after paying what we do to bury our loved ones. I am so incredibly disappointed in Sunland with this burial, and fearful it will happen again with my other babies…....

Judith, Brendon and the whole staff welcomed me and provided a relaxing and informal environment. I felt comfortable in relating stories of dad, when it seemed appropriate. We engaged in formal and informal conversations. Judith shared that Dad's original honorary discharge certificate was included in his file. She completely arranged a Color Guard Ceremony of the Navy, at the grave site. It was arranged in only a few days and was amazing! I will have the memory and flag to hand down to my children. Judith, Brendon and other staff members met us at the front door the day of Dad's service. We were guided by Judith and Brendon to our special room and made to feel relaxed and comfortable. The room was serene, beautiful and inviting. My father was presented in a way that was exactly how he always looked. I was so thankful and honored. I had requested that an art piece and a small bible be placed in Dad's casket. Judith showed me where they were placed inside with Dad. I was delighted and felt at peace.
