Not part of the lush first that most people think of when thinking of Oregon. It's high desert, open plains (ancient lake bed) and a horseshoe shaped volcanic remnant. It feels like a lonely zone, but it is archaeologically significant. The oldest shoes ever discovered in the world were found here, and apparently there was an entire shoe store's amount with a variety of sizes that were discovered in a cave near here. Hiking is available, but have good shoes as there's a lot of loose rubble on slopes. Raptors nest on the cliffs and you can find areas with lots of bones from small animals. Take plenty of water as it is dry and can be...

I am the travel planner in our family and there is a joke that I take us to every weird sight to see.... yes there have been some weird things that I have drove us out of the way to see, but most of the time it is amazing wonders like this one. Out of the flat barren land rises this mammoth rock.... and we climbed it. Even if you do not want to walk up and around it, it is worth a look to just drive her and witness the crazy big rock in the middle of nowhere. And I do mean in the...

What a magnificent natural formation. If I only knew how to play an electric guitar 🎸. I would bring it and I would strap an amp on my back with a battery bank. Solar powered. It's the desert. I'm sure you will have sun. Lol. I would love to sit in the center of this natural amphitheater and just jam out! Even a concert or any musical venue would be totally...

Went here about a week ago. Was beautiful and the hike was nice. Didn't do the full thing cause of a bum leg, but overall was nice. Extremely trendy though and people are constantly coming and going despite it being off the beaten path. Overall, gorgeous and worth it!
